RE: cheap tyres - Pommie - 10-10-2010

I just followed suit there and ordered a pair too. Too good to miss. I think 3 days delivery is a bit optomistic though Steve. I reckon thats just interstate shipping

You can use a 190/55 if you like. (I do.)

Can't seem to find a 55...first link doesn't work for me.

Try looking at the Michelin Power Pures. $174 for a 190/55.

Not sure about those, haven't read a review. I specifically wanted the Roadsmarts because the awesome reviews they've been getting in the mags and on the forums. Massive mileage figures too.

Do you rate those Michelins?

RE: cheap tyres - Rainbow7 - 10-10-2010

Yes, I love, love , LOVE the Power Pures. I got a set when the first came out and have stuck with them since. The mileage is ok, but I don't look for mileage in tyres. All I care about is grip and handling characteristics, which the Pures have in spades. They also warm up faster than any tyre I've ever used. - I can ride 2 blocks and they're warm!
I've said this elsewhere, but Michelin's advertising for the Pures talks about how their lighter weight will improve your handling characteristics. I thought that was just marketing BS but when I got a Pure put on the front of my bike it felt like someone had removed the steering damper! They are instantly, noticeably lighter than other tyres.

OK cool, like the feeling it's said you experience from lighter wheels?

I understand it's not your main concern, but do you know roughly the kind of K's you might expect?

Exactly!

Mileage: I got about 6000km out of my front tyre; will get about the same out of the rear. But I change mine well before they get down to the belts, so you could probably get 7-8000 out of them if you really wanted to.
Depends on how aggressively you ride, too. Bazman/Big John would get less mileage than I do because they ride a lot harder. (Crazy people, these Busa owners.) And someone on this site would get f-all out of his tyres because he thinks his bike is unicycle.

RE: cheap tyres - Steve - 10-10-2010

the 55 would throw your speedo out a bit wouldn't it, not a problem if you have a healer installed. Do they affect the down low response by much.

I have a SpeedoHealer.
Down low response isn't affected for me, because I have a 16:42 sprocket conversion and a flashed ECU. IDK what it would be like on a stock bike. Maybe FasterFaster or SpaManGlenn could tell you?
