They secure your bike for crossing, using handle bar tie down straps. If your bikes falls over then I would be expecting the whole ship to be upside down and the bike to be the least of your problems LOL
BUT.... inspect your bike before and after they tie it down as they are not the most gentle, or careful, of guys. Last crossing I got a 50mm scratch on my fairing that I am sure happened when they untied bike (was not there before and I was standing beside bike when they tied it). luckily 90% of scratch disappeared with a good cut n polish.
