Lemon Chains
#16
Folks,

Chains have a little "stretch" over the first 600km. After that the stretch is actually wear in the pins that allows the chains to "stretch".

The reason why chains get tight in some areas is that the pins in that area have worn more than at other parts on the chain. This is usually caused by lack of lubrication or grit etc getting into the chain and increasing wear.

If the chain has even wear the busa chain only needs to be changed if it exceeds max 319.4mm centre to centre over 21 pins (same for both Gen 1 and 11)

An easier way as already mentioned in this post is to pull the centre link on the rear sprocket back away from the sprocket. If there is more than 1 - 1.5 mm gap between the roller and the base of the sprocket the chain has reached its wear (ps do this with the "loosest" part of the chain). Just as the strength of a chain is determined by its weakest link its wear limits are determined at the area of the greatest wear.

The most critical aspect to chain life is regular lubrication.

Cheers
