Yes. There has been a few examples I've seen of them cut shorter. There's also a guy on here from OS called Fester I think that has gutted a pair of these and rebuilt them with a straight through piece of perforated pipe and new packing.

I've put a 2" holesaw through the plate inside the inlet of mine, effectively making them straight through. I would like to do what Fester's done though, when I find the time and effort.

It'll definitely shed weight. Mine is a Gen 1, and I have a Hindle titanium system on it. Titanium is obviously much lighter than a Gen 2 OEM exhaust. I chopped it and saved a fair bit of weight...
