How to recover from tank slapper?
#1
I've only gotten into several of these and [after watching a few hours of bike vids] wondered if there's a way that you can recover from them, apart from just trying to ride them out, or having a good steering damper.

My wife got into a 'slapper on a BMW Club Icicle ride, many years ago...tore most of the muscles on one side of her back, but she held on. She was on a FZ750 at the time. Lucky??? To the last I will grapple with thee; from Hell's heart I stab at thee; for Hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee.

Accepted response is just to hold on and ride it out, keeping an even throttle and trying nothing 'dramatic'. The slapper comes as a result of an unstable oscillation of the front end. Often the forces are greater than you can physically control. Braking is a definite no. Luckily its rare these days..

Maybe my definition of a tank slapper is a bit broad, or maybe I've just been lucky.

The 'worst' one I've had was coming off the Princess highway at the 2nd werribee turnoff during roadworks, where there were multiple uneven layers and 'dribbles' of asphalt across the exit. @ about 100kph the handlebars were going crazy, although I don't think they were going through 100% of the range. It sorted itself out as the bike slowed down itself and yeah. Bike had no damper at all and I didn't think much of it apart from thinking that it'd been a 'slapper.

The other memorable one was on the Busa on one of our rides through the black spur to yea way, when overtaking the front wheel hit a lump of asphalt and went a bit crazy too, though it sorted itself out pretty quick.

Is there another name for these not-quite-slapping-the-tank-slappers or is that their name??

Plenty of rest and anti-inflamatories work well for me!
