Hi All,

I was booked in my car at 132 with an alleged 130kph. That blows it for a month. I know some of you have been through this before - any hints ? Should there be a 3kph allowance ? Should I opt for a magistrate or just sit quietly for the month ?

Never booked on a bike (300,000kms of riding) and have only one 65 in a 60 zone photo in my 30 odd years.

Appreciate some feedback,

Bob (99 Black and Red - Vic)

OK! I go through this A LOT. First thing, write to you Roads and Traffic, or whatever it is in your state. There should be contact details on the back of your ticket.

Write a lovely letter pointing out that you have had a pretty much blemish free driving record for 30 years, and you are devestated at your folly. Say that you must have had a moment's distraction, but as they can see from your record, you are not a habitual speeder. Ask them as a courtesy to your 30 years of almost clear driving, to reduce the fine and points penalty slightly.

What have you got to lose?? Just do it BEFORE the fine is due. One that date comes up, they wont do anything.

So many ks are you over, never be to vic so not aware of speed limits there
I'm assuming it was in a 100 klm/h zone???

If so you'll have to cop your lumps and tell your story walking!

Some dreamers might tell you to do this, do that! But do not get your hopes up.

If it was only a few klms over the limit and you had a good driving record you could write a letter. Say you did it and sorry....... This works here in Vic. I wrote a letter for the Misses and she got off the hook.

Good luck with your quest. A good pair of walking shoes helps. (Trust me) Frown

Cheers, Phil.
That was 30kph over.

Thanks Heidi, did the letter thing - no room to move down here on a 30+ booking. They simply explain to pay it or go to magistrate.

I don't mind - I feel fortunate really as I have exceeded the limit a few times (like on trips to the Jindabyne meet) but never got 'unlucky'.

Sometimes you just have to cop it.

In Qld you can also write to your Police Superintendent of Traffic and plead your case and it's possible for the infringement notice to be cancelled. The superintendent is usually either the commissioned officer in charge of the district or the OIC of the district traffic branch.

At which stage your letter is passed to an (underpaid) public servant who types up the standard rejection letter. Especially for the letters talking about what a saint driver they were and how them and their whole family had never had a ticket before. When that public servant was me, I think I saw perhaps one ticket get cancelled in a twelve month period.

Even if the ticket contains incorrect data, the police powers and responsibilities act now ensures you will just get a re-write of the ticket.
