hello everyone

well i took my bike into suzuki today just to have a look at the clutch plates cos i thought they were still a bit glazed and not grabbing well.after the problem i had with slipping clutch i didnt want to take any chances.the plates were very dry so they removed the plates to soak them.

heres the problem, when they removed the plates and spun the back wheel in nuetral there is knocking and griding that they can feel.there is also some resistance on it that they said normal but not as much as there is.

they sais they might have to check gearbox which means the motor has to come out.DEPRESSING.

anyone got any idea's? i know thats like asking "how long is a piece of string" but you just never know

thanx bud.i have 09 with 2500k's on it.

trouble is noise and resistance is coming from gear box.
well at least youd have warranty but still not what one would want from a brand new bike and entitled to be pissed thats its engine wud have to be opened. I would try and fight for a new replacement bike but im afraid the chances for that wud be close to zero.
guy in townsville got a replacement bike after it was discovered that the motor had some issues. not what i would have handed a new bike over for but suzuki did it. so if the problem is bad which it sounds like it maybe then you very well might get a replacement. big time depends on the dealer and how hard they are willing to push for a replacement or just repair.

just about any prob in the gearbox of that nature will leave metal in the oil, did they check the oil or sump plug for lumpy bits or metal flake , could just be a dry chain ??? also the btl can be noisy .

Hi Hayabusabike,

There will be no link between the clutch or the plates and the noise, because the clutch is not spinning when the trans is in neutral. This limits the noise to being brake, sprocket, chain, or gears, bearings, and shift forks associated with the countershaft asm.

My recommendation is to drain the oil and inspect the filter for metal fragments - which would rule out any issue with the transmission (if you find metal in the oil, push Suzuki for a new bike or new engine - as they may not find the problem even if they rebuild your engine).

Then remove the chain and spin the countershaft sprocket. If you still hear the noise, the problem will be with the countershaft bearing, gears, or forks.

If no noise with the chain removed, the problem is with the chain, sprocket, or brakes.

Good luck.

hey everyone...JOY JOY JOY.

apparantly the problem was a dry clutch and a gear position bearing or something like that.easy fix.should get back tomorrow

see how we go then.
good shit mate! nothing worse than knowing somethings wrong with your bike but not what! except when you over tighten radiator bolts and twist the head of at 530pm on a friday afternoon when your supposed to be riding for the weekend
