Hey guys & gals, can someone answer this for me as so called experts in bike shops had NO idea.

Is the only difference with the ventura racks the mounting brackets?
If I was to get a rack from another model of bike, could I just get the brackets new & bolt it onto the bus?

MCA quoted me $450 for a new rack with the small bag. Seems a little steep especially now they have no direct competition (ventura only rack makers at the moment)Confused

Hi Travis

The bottom mounting brackets are specific for each model of motorcycle that they supply. The big thing to check is the centre distance between the vertical uprights of the rack where it goes into the mounting brackets. I know my RF900 rack and my Hayabusa rack were not interchangeable. Some bike racks are also quite small, like VTR racks from what I have seen.

Kathy got a price for the GSX650F and it came out at about $370 with a 45L bag. That is one of the bigger bags that they make and is sufficient for a weekend away. I also have a RJays bag which is bigger again and is good for a weekend for both of us.

WHatever you decide, it's a worthwhile investment.

Thanks Graham, I was hoping you might see this.
Any idea what the centre to centre distance is?
I have seen a few on ebay that give the model they're off & the centre distance as well.
Would like to fit a rack & bag but a) could use the money better for other things & b) have seen a better quality rack bag for cheaper & a second hand rack would be easier than buying the rack with bag & then the 2nd bag leaving the first gathering dust.
if you show em proof of already having a bag they should sell you just brackets and rack for the new bike mate.

worked for me when i boughht the gen 2.

I just purchased a new venture rack and 45l bag for my 09 Busa and it came in at $380 all up and fitted it myself!
Cheers

Prices went up early feb apparently. I read that but it would mean buying a ventura bag which I don't want just to buy the rack on it's own. What kind of crap is that anyway? Tear the tag out as proof or we won't sell you a rack?

What difference does it make whether or not you have their bag?? What if you just need the rack to carry something like a breifcase to and from work?

Personally, I found the Ventura racks to be reasonably well designed but poorly mfrd. I have a Givi box and the Ventura rack wobbled and shook too much. I then had it braced, but it kept breaking elsewhere. In the end I had a bracket specially made with similar but much stronger mounting points. I then had my new rack powder coated and it looks a million dollars and no more problems. Sure it is a little heavier, but the bike handles it no problems.

The Givi box might take away from the bikes sporty image, but it is great to have your goodies travel safe and dry.
