Ladies and gents,

Given the media hype and 'Today Tonights' unbelievable story on this evening:

Should we risk the lives of our athletes for the sake of our sporting stardom?

I am very concerned given the alleged 80% likelihood of terrorist attack. It was also mentioned that an attack on the staduim would be unlikely, however, with the terrorists possibly opting to strike a much easier target such as team buses/accommodation.

What are your thoughts?

I will state that the opinions possibly expressed in this thread are just that - opinions. I really do not want to start a cyber-war.

Thanks

Cam Pi_thumbsup
They'd all be much safer at home!
This by the way coming from a reasonably non sporty person!

Stay home, stay safe! Biker
At least they could have supplied them with flak jackets etc.
I wouldnt go.

Maybe we're all better off sitting at home indoors all day........... it's letting the what-ifs dominate our lives.
HI Guys,

I am from India and I am not comfortable going there - I hope that explains. But its one of the nice places to visit, due to the hype everything will be in control. In third world there is no polished attitude - they find a terrorist and they beat the hell out of it.

I have lived through the bombing of Mumbai twice and yet can confirm - its nice place.
being to close to my heart - I think I will stop now - I wont be wrong to say I hate terrorist and we shouldnt give into their fear.
Cheers,

Bill
Nicely said Bill.

.......................
Why hold the games in such a place? no one should go there Imho
The Aus cricket team are there but leave them there there useless anyway Very Happy

Serious note it is up to the individual what would you do if you had the chance to go to India and bring a Busa home for a prize , As that is what some of these athletics feel about there gold medal , Me i dont no if i would or would not
well said Rod & Bill Pi_thumbsup

.....when ya have a really good think about it, just about EVERYONE on this forum takes a HUGE risk EVERY SINGLE TIME they strap the helmet on and put the key in the ignition.....

.....if the REWARDS are worth the RISK (...and i'm SO-O-O-O glad Robbie Mattison, our home-grown, world-dominating stunt-rider subscribes [watch out this coming NY EveScary] to this theory)......i say > > > > > GO FOR IT!!!!! Pi_thumbsup

ps: a life lived with no or very little risk.....is a life only half-lived!!!! Pi_thumbsup
Ask yourself this question...would I let any person ride my busa with me on the back?

The lack of security, the fact that the village is not ready and they have to rush to finish all the work by Sunday is just a recipe for disaster. In the rush of things and the confusion of it all it's as easy as cake to plant a detonating device with a delayed timer in any part of the village, aircon units come to mind!!!!
Let's not have another 9/11 where information was available and no action was taken!!!!
If we love our athletes we should keep them home at least this time and if anyone on this forum thinks that we are in some way giving in to "terrorism" than they should ask themselves this "would you send your son/daughter through a door where they can come back with a medal or unrecognizable in a pine box in tooth pick size pieces"
PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE
Gurus,

Just heard on the radio that Police files have revealed detailes of foiled terrorist attack plot aimed at the attending teams.

This is ridiculous.......Why does the media make people panic reporting the unconfirmed news and that too from a pakistani website.....Everyone knows that India and Pakistan are enemy nations

Australia Chef de Mission Steve Monoghetti on Tuesday expressed satisfaction over the facilities being provided to the athletes and delegates of his country in the Commonwealth Games Village here.

"We are working very hard. We have brought the largest team from Australia. We are enjoying a comfortable life in the Village," Monoghetti told Australian media.

Australian athletes too appreciated the food, transport and security being provided to them by organisers here.

"It has been pretty good. The dining hall is fantastic, it is same as Melbourne. And the security is top notch out here. I feel completely safe and secured," said lawn bawl player Lynsey Armitage.

Elated over her first of its kind experience in the country, Lynsey said, "Being in India is a life-time opportunity."

The facilities also impressed Australia's Press Attache, John Gartfield.
