Quite a few people have criticised the idea of a Hayabusa racing around a track with smaller bikes. Some have been vocal on websites (every single one of those have never ridden a Hayabusa on a racetrack however!!!). Some have sent PM's telling me I'm stupid, which is true, but not because of my choice of bike!

I, personally, just love the bike, so I decided after a couple of years of having it on the road, to one day turn mine into a track bike...

My intention has never been to enter or win races... just to have fun... and so far I've had lots of trouble-free fun!

Let's not forget though, that back in 2000, the mighty Hayabusa made history:

In a recent interview with MCN:

Quote:Shawn Giles says: "I had some great races with Mat in 1994 and 1995 - some real memorable ones. He was a real hard racer and a demon under brakes."

When it comes to memorable motorcycles, Giles doesn't hesitate in naming the race-kitted Suzuki Hayabusa he co-rode in the Suzuka 8-hour race in 2000, Japan's most prestigious race and a round of the World Endurance Championship.

Giles raced the Hayabusa to victory in the Formula X class with team mate Osama Deguchi.

Shawn Giles says: "That thing was a weapon - we actually had to detune it for the race so we could ride it for the whole eight hours. I could pass any of the factory Superbikes in a straight line. I remember Hitoyasu Izutsu on the factory Kawasaki Superbike having his head buried under the screen and his arse on the ducktail and I went past him on the 'Busa sitting up and looking sideways at him.

"Izutsu couldn't believe it! I remember having real bad blisters on my hands after the race from trying to hold on. Real bad..."

To the critics, I say come and get me.
To those offering advice to help out with my fun project, I say thank you. It's been over a year on the track now and I gotta say, I LOVE IT!!!

And good on you for having a dream and going for it. It is a beauty, you should be really proud of what you have done.

Pan,
Stick with it. IMO the Bussa would be a great deal of fun on the track with a bit of set up work. In fact, I'd love to take my newie up for a gentle track day, but dont have the balls to mention it to the boss.
I've had a 1098 and currently track a baby 848 Duke and I can confirm that the big Jappa has got me hooked.Pi_thumbsup
You'll always get knockers. They're usually the Latte' sippers that have "all the gear and no idea".
ps: Get ya knee down Very Happy
Pan don't worry about the knockers and you probably don't anyway the one thing that I always say is what goes around comes around but when your on a Busa it goes round real quick.
I'm only an average rider and I have always said I would hate to think what one of these would do with a decent rider on it.

I can't believe how many people bag the Busa because they reckon they don't go around corners I've had many arguments about the subject so I could only imagin how many knockers you got when you decided to turn yours into a track bike. I would love to do the same but I dont think I would get past the cook with that one so do us proud mate and have fun whilst doing it. Clap
Way to go Pan, I think that is awesome. Keep doing what you love with the bike you get the biggest buzz out of. I went to trackdayz in Perth last weekend with my Busa in level 1, I am only a new kid on the block with under a year riders experience but I had a huge amount of fun. So much so, I am going back for more. I had some off the cuff comments as well, but basically I was having loads of fun. This was me for the first time on a track.

ClapLol3Clap too true!

I know the 'busa is a BIG bike that is not the fastest thing around a tight track. But I'll bet you're the one with the biggest grin. (unless I'm out there Very Happy )

Plus, stock, the 'busa can surprise and demoralise many so called experts. One that's been lightened, & with slicks, would blow many of the "pretty boys" away, and just be a huge amount of fun.

I too have been following the "build" religiously. Keep up the good work, the world is full of jealous people who "just don't understand !" Drool Pi_thumbsup
Hey Pan, Don't forget, if you're not on a Hayabusa, you're behind one.
Keep the good work up mate.
The old saying, and song, walk a mile in my shoes applies. The only ones who can legitimately criticise are those who have tried what you have done and i would wager those critics would be no-one, I don't know anyone who has done trackdays on a Busa say they would not do it again so a BUSA tracky is the envy of most, good onya mate wish I could have a crack at it Pi_thumbsup

Axe

I here you brother!
