Now I know it is hard to get around when you don't have a license, been there done that but do we really need these annoyingly horribly ugly sounding el cheapo petrol bicycles getting around. Knuppel2

I am at Bligh Park in western Sydney and I now know a company at Penrith is selling them and they are appearing like a plague. I don't mind when the local hoon's are out in their pride and joy and it is something to look at but these nasty 50cc two strokes are a menace.

Maybe I am just being grumpy but they are a danger to everyone and I have nearly hit them a few times as they have no handling, no brakes and clueless riders that are all over the road.

The problem is if I hit one of these nutcases I am sure me being the one that is a licensed road user and paying all forms of insurance would still be the one at fault.

I am sure the RTA used to have a maximum of 200watts electric peddle assisted power.

Sorry to have a rant but maybe others are having the same problems. but they are getting around in little gangs now it is the school holidays at all hours of the night.

Hi Mate, i'm not sure how the Police look at these things but i'm pretty sure if it has a motor it would have to be registered, insured and licenced, and all the goverments ie:state and federal would get a slice of any revenue that they could get out of them ! (My Rant over )....
Somebody wrote themselves off over here in WA on one the other day. No helmet and hit a tree, but I'd still prefer those to the clowns in the Commonwhore utes. Less chance of killing other people.
Hey Bizket im from there too I live up the front, but i also hang out up the back also at times, there is bloody gangs of them A, do you visit the local watering hole at all Nerd

I am a member but not much sometimes for the schnitzel special I am normally at work or asleep working two jobs and one of them night shift.

That's why the rant hate getting woken up by these crappy two strokes in the afternoon.
We had a huge problem with kids riding in packs on these and the monkey bikes a while back.
The local Council working with Police did a blitz and made it quite clear that the riders will be fined and three strikes meant the bike was seized and destroyed.
The local papers ran articles and photo's of quite a few bikes being piled up and crushed for scrap metal. It only took a couple of months before they were a thing of the past.

hope the same happens here
It wouldn't be so bad if one or two got around every now and then, but I remember seeing packs of around a dozen kids on the road, no helmets or protective gear and they were just friggin everywhere. I kicked a kid off one once as he thought it would be funny to back it into my local milkbar and drop a little burnout in the doorway. I was at the counter so just walked over and kicked the back of the bike hard and he went ass over with the bike flying out into the carpark. I shouted at him "get your bike and f*** off" looked at his mates on bikes and said "who's up next" They all took off real quick. The owners were very thankful for me getting rid of them.

In sa, the cops are cracking down on them. Seen one getting towed to the police station on th eback of a flat bed truck! Friend of a friend got caught with one, it got impounded and run on a dyno to check power output. All up around 2000 bucks fines/fees as a result.

The motors are only legal when under a certain power output, which is extrememly low, therefor all motors fitted to pushbikes are safely assumed to be ilegal Cops will do you for unregistered, uninsured unroadworthy etc.

2000 bucks !!!! Wtf thats big. I wonder if they get to keep the Dyno run print out lol
I think Tex has had to have a few on his dyno to prove they were legal. He will know the actual power levels they can have.
I am pretty sure it has to have under a certain kw, I looked into 50cc scooters when I lost my licence, the road registered ones that barely pull 60kph are illegal for an unlicenced rider/driver. But the motorised pushys, scooters, skate boards and bar stools, that have no rego or adr compliance are legal, and also have no requirement to wear more than a pushbike helmet.
The system is backwards.
While it is fair to say I deserved to lose my licence (as well as a lot of other people who have) the implications to the rest of society are huge, I am now limited to how often and where I can work, if I can get a lift etc. I cant stay for overtime unless the guy I got a lift with gets overtime too. My kids cant get to sport or any other after school activity unless another parent can pick them up and drop them off. I can't even duck down to the shopping centre for stuff that runs out unexpectantly. And god forbid any actual emergency should happen and I was forced to drive as I would be charged and more than likely gaoled.
But if I could legaly ride a 50cc scooter, hell they could even have like a LAM's list of approved ones, I would happily get to and from work and contribute more to society.
I have dynoed 4 of these things for the cops here in sth oz, everone of them has been over 200W (the legal limit). Now Plod are forcing me to appear in court. When I said this was never mentioned beforehand I was told "thats what happens when you get involved with us" Wont be doing anymore though, thinking of saying that any dyno that reads to 500HP/ 373KW could'nt possibly be accurate at such a low reading!
We are having the same problems here too. They like to modify the exhaust, but they are banned in many places like the parks and on the roads.
