That was a good read Simmo. I think I need to be exposed to more articles like that to remind me that it can hurt when you fall off without all the right gear, and that you can fall off when you're not being reckless. Thanks.
Unforgettably how often do you see people on the back of bikes with just a helmet on, I saw a Guy come off the back of a bike with only shorts & thongs on it was not pretty & that was only at 60-70kph, Gloves is a big thing with me whats the first thing you stick out on a small fall to save yourself
must admit ive been getting very lazy and have not wearing any gear not even gloves at times Idiot2 , i find the ride is much more enjoyable in loose clothing but i know it would'nt be pretty if you come off. Good reminder though.
i find putting all my riding gear on the biggest pain in the arse. However, i never ride without it. Those pics show the perfect reason why.
The TAC down here in vic are running a add about wearing jeans they show the medical staff pulling gravell and jeans out of a bloke ,Stating if he had leathers he would have walked away.
Only a add but makes you think , When i was up in Qld there was nothing worse than seeing some middle aged Dad that has not been on a bike for 20 years Hires a scooter and puts his young child on the back with Thongs shorts and a tanktop Pi_freak

U can check out my leather scars on my
Ass,thigh & elbow on my leathers, as I was wearin my leathers when another bike
Rider cut me off-on a corner & I had nowhere to go-
My bike went flipidy flip -tumbler

No broken bones that day but $2500.oo in cheap bike repairs

Plus I was wearing a full length back protector

Guess thats what happens when u go ridin with the
Melbourne wreckin crew (not their real name )

+1 Pi_thumbsup, & it's too hot up here most of the year, even worse when I lived in Cairns with the extra humidity, however I have seen first hand the mess made of sweet young things when they depart a motorcycle @ speed.
and the compromise is something like draggin jeans or other Kevlar lined jeans. Not as good as leather but better than standard denim.Coolsmiley

No disrespect intended (sincerely), but there's no way kevlar jeans could be considered a compromise. There's no armour in them unless you add it yourself, and even when you do, the armour moves around too much to be effective and is usually low grade.

I'm a big fan of armour, after a certain point everything becomes useless but up until then, tight armour with a thick leather skin will make the difference from screaming in agony in hospital hell, and getting in a huff about your $3000 gear getting sandpaper treatment.
Hi

I maintain also it is not always equally praktis your leather outfit to wear or if you need to go somewhere fast.
And certainly not when it's hot, in our problem is that of warm weather not the main problem but water.
I myself at the beginning of this year, my second car sold because of advances pension'm gone.
My wife has her car for her work.
But I'm just a habit of always wearing my leather outfit.
And here in Belgium, it is mandatory now as they ride motorbikes, each exposed body must be covered.
Shoes above the ankle - long trousers - sleeved vest or jacket and gloves.
All behold the advantage in, ok shoes above the ankle and gloves.
But an ordinary trousers and shirt.

The day that you fall with 30km and what pushes you over the road then you know the results immediately.
And even the most ordinary streets here are lined with Tarmak and stones.

So ........................

None taken, I agree that leather and qaulity armour is the best choice, my point was simply that kevlar lined jeans V normal jeans is a better option as low speed slides tend to shred Jeans then your skin. The kevlar improves the time before your skin is exposed.

I saw a guy being dragged on his arse by a bike at Oran Park many moons ago (Draggin Jeans demonstration) along the length of the main straight and they didn't expose any skin!!! I was impressed, but I've gone from Draggin Jeans, to armoured textile pants to leathers....feel more confident in leathers due to the fit.
