Hi. I,m close to my 24000k service which is a Shim job. Does it really need doing at this milage or is it safe to leave it till you start to hear the shims on start up. We all know how the stealers charge like a wounded bull and being a 2009 it,s out of warrenty. All advice taken in. Thank you.

Never seen on this forum anyone needing shims done at 24,000 km. more like 60,000 . Your choice though .

You can pull it down & check them your sell if your keen its only the cover off,
But its a prick of a job if you want to do it yourself to re do the clearances the cams in & out re doing the timing check & re check, it took me about a day to get mine perfect, plus you may need a shim kit its about $100, if its going alright & not noisy its not really worth playing with but saying that they can end up with tight clearances & you dont know but I wouldn't be to worried till 50K, its probably worth getting some one that know what they are dong with a shim kit

when busgo got mine checked at 100000 ks they where still in tolerance he told me
Ditto, it's almost rare to find a busa needing shims. Much better materials used nowadays.
Thanks guys. Can save byself about $800 by not getting it done and can spend that on bling. Pi_thumbsup
No point in buying bling if you burn out valve guides and seats. Best you measure the clearances first.

$800 is that what they quoted

Over 90k and never had one changed. Did have the cam lobes resurfaced after the case-hardening started coming off the Yoshi cams, but still no shims.
