Everyone has their opinion on Speed Cameras regarding safety or revenue, but check out these figures for last financial year.
Revenue from speed cameras both fixed and hand held:
QLD $94,101,000
NSW $110,783,102
VIC. $269,738,914

Given that VIC is the smallest of the states, it's a big difference.Scary

It's because youse speed more Lol3

Saw this article on a news program tonight.

Really thinking of avoiding Victoria as much as I can...... just in case I have a lapse going down a hill or my speedo is not accurate.
The fact is Vic coppers love enforcing and making a presence...also if you look at every state/territory etc Vic is covered in roads compared to all the others...

I actually don't have a problem with a police presence on the road. Marked police or HWP cars standing loud and proud with the coppers pointing the speed gun in plain site does help keep road deaths down.
Coppers hidden in trees or fixed speed cameras out of sight do nothing but raise revenue.

Agree though, heavy density of roads in VIC. But having moved down from NSW 6 years ago the first thing I noticed and was warned of was the over zealous use of speed cameras down here.
Had this discussion tonight before I saw this thread. Why is it we feel threatenned whenever we see police on the road instead of feeling safer?? !

Police on the road just means we are pulled over and harrassed while on a bike constantly. They will tail gate me for ages before getting pissed off that I don't do anything wrong and then stop me. I don't ride a "Harley" (not that it should make a difference!!) I don't look like a member of a gang, but too often I get stopped and "checked", a rego check, breathaliser check, exhaust and roadworthy check. They seem to be pretty pissed off when they can't get me for any of that either! It doesn't happen in the car, because my car doesn't stand out, and I don't have P plates! But I don't feel any better about the police presence on the road when driving or riding!! Highway Patrol are a leach on society! I can't concentrate on the road, I can't concentrate on side streets and pedestrians, I can't look out for the the possibility of upcoming incidents, because I have to watch my speedo constantly to make sure that I dont go over the designated speed limit. - because that is dangerous!!

Yeah, they have a job to do, but you can't excuse prejudice and harassment. Like most of us probably have at some stage, I have experienced the good and the bad.
HWP though do seem to be the worst.
It's not the size of the state, it's how you use it...

Vehicles registered per state
NSW - 4,869,996
VIC - 4,286,284
QLD - 3,492,311
and so on...
I haven't done my new numberplate yet, will fix it tomorrow. 6 coats of incralac and you get a reflective nightmare when a flash is applied to it. Otherwise it looks perfectly normal ;)
Yep i gave plenty of $ to Vic but the one that realy gets to me is one of those snipers in the spurs i defently was not speeding

Is that right? Does it really work? Rob

i get stopped all the time ,bc my bike looks different ,i was in flowing traffic in a 100k zone doing 80k with the traffic ,a hwy patrol cop did a u turn at speed almost wiping out the car behind me ,just to stop me,he spent 10 minutes walking around my bike ,looking ,then looked at me ,licence,he said ,went back to car ,did his thing then returned to breath test me ,then handed me a fine for$86 and 1 point for having a point on my rear facing chain guard, its bullshit!
also got booked for having violet parker light ,not blue violet,$87 n 1 point,n.s.w is bullshit ,will be moving to s.a in about 4 yrs were speed cameras ,basically dont exist.

with my number plate it reads SLO its a metalic black with metalic silver grey letter ,and from the side angle the whole plate changes to black and cannot be read ,rta have sent me a letter asking for it to be returned ,i wrote back n told them i bought from you for $440 this way its mine basically ,piss off.
Don't speed don't get fined easy fix people that whine and complain about speeding fines only have themselves to blame
However in saying that the zero tolerance that Vic has pisses me off I got done for 63 in a 60 zone no allowance for speedo error
I now drive everywhere with a navman that tells me how fast I am actually going haven't been done since

Dale

The reason why Melb. riders get booked more than Sydney riders ..

Sydney riders dont actually go anywhere .. Do they fellas ?? Wm

Pretty sure so, havent had a ticket on the bike in 4 years and I was on two 1 point good behaviour licences in the years befor that. I read it somewhere and thought I'd give it a go. It's the same effect as the old plastic numberplate holder screen that they banned years back because it was thwarting the cameras. You have to put lots of coats on though and it did, on mine at least, put a bit of "crazing" on the letters/numbers and made them look old, but you had to get close to pick it.

I tested it before and after by flashing it with my camera and there was a noticable difference. After treatment the plate was just a white rectangle. If anyone ever inquired me about it I would just say it must have been the previous owner?

Once I bent my plate, just the last number, bent it down on the road side (since the cameras are on the footpath.) From the footpathside you could not see the last number but from behind it looked normal. However the cop up on mount glorious who pulled me over for taking a corner cranked over, discovered it and gave me the third degree. I played dumb and said perhaps earlier when leaving a stop it must have got bent by me backing into a post. He said "did you back into a post?" I said yes I did. He said "didn't you think to stop and check the bike after that accident?" I said no! "He said well you should have, it was your responsibility to ensure your vehicle was roadworthy and he gave me a $300 fine. I nearly choked and said how many points is that??? he said "No points attached" Cool I thought, money is only money but points are serious stuff.
