I was told yesterday that a good all over dose of WD40 the night before cleaning is the best possible prep you can do. On the day some good soapy water and a wipe down is all that is needed (maybe some brake cleaner to get rid of any chain lube) to complete the job.

Any experience with this as a method? Am I the last to know about this?

I'm planning to do this prep tonight and give the old girl a clean tomorrow to give it a try...........
Do you mean for cleaning the whole bike, or just the chain?
Don't think I would but if your willing lets us know always open to new ideas.

As for the chain just use kero and a nail brush dry it off then use engine oil that chain lube is a waste of money been using this method for 36 years road and race never had a problem, if you put too much oil on and it flings off on your wheel just clean it off with eucalyptus oil also good for tar insects etc removal.

i never wash mine ,i use a bucket of soapy water and a big chamois only,

GRUNTMAX

Throw a good splash of Kero in your bucket of hot soapy water with detergent when you wash it.
WD40 method used by advisor for years. His bike is always meticulously clean with little effort. Seems to give results. Will give it a go and advise.
Mr Sheen and a clean lint free rag is all i use.
Mix CT18 and water 50-50 in a spray bottle (9lt pump up ones from hardware garden section), spray the bike, leave it 15mins, hit it with the hose......hey presto. Only the really stubborn bug guts need wiping with a soapy sponge. I do the bike, boat & car this way. Yes, I'm lazy.
Wouldn't your bike smell funny if you let it sit in WD 40 all night?
Smells like WD40 while it is sitting there Pan, but not afterwards so I found out. (once you wind the windows down the smell goes away)

Tested the theory - works very well. A good dose of WD40 the night before all over, and some brake cleaner on the chain. A good wash with well soaped water to lift the WD40 and the liberated grotty stuff. A good wipe of the chain with a rag lifts heavy build up before the wash. Good on the hard to get bug guts as well. End result is a well cleaned (better than normal for me) bike that has a lingering shine that isn't greasy. I wouldn't be surprised if it is easier to clean the next time as well.

I think I will modify it a little and buy bulk WD40, and mix with a bit of kero or similar in a spray bottle to make it cheaper.

On another note I also put RHS fairing parts on that I received from Partshark.com some time ago along with a speedo healer. The fairing parts are genuine parts and nowhere near retail prices from here. Aside from having to transfer over the heat and sound insulation foam it was straight forward. Very impressed with the parts.
Great stuff. I believe you, but I think many of us, including me, will stick to the stuff we use for now!

Post some pics if you can...
I would be cautious with kero or WD on the uncoated stickers that reside on the 'Busa flanks, not so much of a worry IF they were clear coated.
Can't imagine it being good for the seat or screen either, & tyres, brake pads..., lets say I would be very cautious.
Probably not so much of an issue on an old school bike that does not have acres of plastic & stickers on it.
Yep, kero for the chain, brake cleaner on discs, calipers and pads only when necessary, the rest just gets soap and water. Sometimes finish the fairings and screen with plexus, viewplex or the like.
I never use anything harsher than needed to do the job and always make sure that any cleaner that can leave a residue never gets anywhere near tyres, discs, or pads.
seeing as the chains have an oil ring I wouldn't want to put something as corrosive as brake cleaner near them.... but then all my experience with fluids is from a lotta yrs ago LOL back when brake fuild and chorine would make a pretty impressive smoke bomb
