With the recent purchase of a 99 I have yet to really try it out but immediately I can feel the power difference. But before I talk about it any further there are some things I need to point out....

Comparing my new 99 to my 01 is like comparing marderins and oranges.... while both part of the naval citrus family they are uncomparable!!

Why are they so different?

Well the 01 I have is a stock bike, to the point of having original pipes and cans. It has also been tuned for economy, which while leaving a lot of low down grunt (we all know the busa has a bit to spare), has resulted in a smooth and consistant ride. It will power up to speed quickly but I don;t feel the front wheel pick up or rear wheel spin. And being an 01 it is also restricted... not sure how/if that effects the bike through the entire rev range.
Over all I would call the 01 a very smooth, easy, comfortable bike that allows a person to play as well and cruise with ease.

Now to the 99.... This bike is a different animal! It has a Brocks sports system single can and a power comander (version is covered with tape). These 2 things alone could count for the difference.... The small rides I hav ebeen on has shown me to respect this bike because IT WILL BITE Scary
It wants to pick the front wheel up and even mild revs taking off has caused the rear wheel to spin and slid sideways (YES this did wake me the f%#k up lol). I know the tyres were cold but I hav enever experienced this on the ole 01.

For now I will rate the 01 as AA++ but the 99 as OMG AAA+++++++++++++ Lol2

due to some un-modding I need to perform on the bike to get it to pass RWC I expect to have bike properly on the road and riding next weekend... THEN I will be happt to post up my overall impressions

Cheers

BTW.. class my review of these bikes as coming from a novice rider... compared to a lot of other members I have barely started to play with, or ride my busa's and I am expecting a long LOOOONG love affair with them..
i will 100% agree ,with you ,after having to mod my bike using dj petes i did notice changes, but dj,s old bike is no slouch it hauls, but the grunt from the 99 motor is like a hand grenade ,
I warned you about those red ones...

PS: are the front and rear sprockets the same?

Dale

Something wrong with this picture ..

A red one can't possibly be faster than a blue / silver Wtf

Tony .. if you think the 99 has grunt, wait til ya get ya bum on a gen2 Pi_tongue

Seriously though, that '99 is a shmicko looking machine, enjoy her mate .. Pi_thumbsup

apart from the sprockets, if the '99 has been modded, it probably has a "timing retard eliminator." Quite a common mod which will give better go in low gears.

Main difference between the '99's/'00's and rest is the fuel pump went from external to into the tank, and the top speed limiter. I also reckon a "hard" run in motor will always run better than a "soft" run in.
...and ECU went to 32 bit, I think, and 2001's got a heavier/stronger rear subframe, hence slower!
i still say Bronze and Silver are faster then red ,n black
UPDATE

Finally got Flash on the road, a nice little 200k run...
LOVE THAT SOUND
Now used to the take off and it runs great, noticed small surges in power at 85-90 kph in 6th. Now before you say it I was riding with a mate on learners so I let him take the lead and sat back enjoying the scenery...
Looking at a run up e north west coast on the next good weathered weekend

Did make me realise I NEED to get some wet weathers.. Someone cheap as I don't like riding in wet. If you have recommendations it would be great

Cheers

For those that want to know...

Fuel economy was GREAT

At 1/2 way point I was getting 23klm/litre, this reduced to 21.5 on the way home as I had about 35ks riding solo and wanted to stretch the legs LOL

With a 21 litre tank is open road running would give me about 462 klm to dead empty
