Had an appointment in Perth and took the Beast to beat the traffic. I pulled into a metered spot paid my money great ready to go, then the voice YOU CAN'T PARK THERE ! (Parking officer), I said, paid my money will park where the @#$% i want. Apparently not M/cycles cannot park in metered car spots Council law even if you pay the toll. I promptly left with some choice words.
Enter parking station same deal only 6 bike spots once full regardless of how many empty car spots they don't let you in even when offering to pay the price of car entry !
Is this insanity the same in other states ?????
oh god yes.
Where I work is in a cct. The footpaths around us are fairly large with many nooks and crannys around the offices in the area. One person took offence to me parking in front of her office and got the parking people involved, they came out and said that all the area around any of the buildings is considered to be footpath and we cant park there (silly, considering the area is not high volume, hardly anyone around).
Ive lobbied to get a bike park in the area, they came and had a look and have decided to put one out in a huge carpark miles from the office. Thats not too bad, but bikes wont be safe there, Id rather park on the road just outside my office window thanks.
at least thats the good thing about Vic, park almost anywhere but responsibly. Hey evil and haemo give me your states and will change your registered users to state members, I guess evil from WA but wud change them only after ppl's confirmation or statement where they reside. Vic still the bike friendly state tho not without some pressure by lobby groups.
Glad you mentioned the word "responsibly" Volvi. Parking on a footpath is logical & leaves an extra kerb space available for a larger vehicle, win win for everybody
Some cruiser riders I've seen (Hardleys) seem to think it is their god given right to be on a footpath with scant regard shown to the safety of pedestrians On the whole though I think the system here in Vic works very well for the benefit of everybody

Well bugger me. That's a piece of bad WA news!! I'd actually heard recently (from a Harley punter no less) that in perth, they will let you park near corners (ie after the last car park). I must admit, I was sceptical, and from Evils experience, I'd be really sceptical. carpark buildings are usually run by Wilson's, so I'll ask them, and street parking is PCC, so they need to state their views. I would be really surprised if you can't park in a car park spot. If there's not a publicly displayed sign, can't see how they can enforce that.
But I got pinged in Freo.
Huge footpath, Sunday morning, and a footpath that is shaped like a wedge. You could play tennis on the part I parked up against a wall. On the other side were about a hundred (I do exagerate a bit) pushbikes. part of a Freo Sunday brekkie is the fact that heaps of pushbike riders call in for brekkie. I love it, in fact ride a pushie a hundred km or so most weeks. They are tolerated, even though they block the footpath more than a motorbike did where I was, but they didn't cop a $60 fine did they?

Maybe we carry a can of spray paint under the cowling so when we pull up we (spray a bay) he he ???

I dont know if this still holds true, but in NSW when I lived there (around 15 years ago) they (MRAA and other organisations) used to tell us that if we got book parking the bike, that we should take it to court. This was when there was a lot of crap going on about bike parking in Sydney.
Apparently when you take it to court, its highly likely you will get off. Because the parking officer that booked you has to show up and he has to have a complete log of what went on in regards to that fine (generally months ago), most times the parking officers dont show up and when they do, they dont have log books.
Like I said, this info is 15 years old, so Id check into it before you start challenging parking fines in court.
