Hey Phil,

I got the old handgrips off easily, didn't want to cut em, used a bit of crc and compressed air. With these heated grips, what did you need to do on the throttle grip? The plastic slider/roller that they go over has several circular ridges at the end closest to the brake fluid. The old grips went over them. Did you trim the plastic off? [I've already trimmed the bar-end ridge off]

Also, did you need to cut off any of the plastic [not rubber] from the grips to get the bar ends to fit? I don't want to bust up the heating elements, if they're moulded into the plastic skeleton?

I reckon I'll just hook them up to mains, but have a relay/solenoid running through the ignition that'll control the grips' power to avoid them being left on once the bike is off.

Cheers,

Really testing a shocking memory Jon?
I did trim plastic of the original throttle.
The end of the new grips also had to be trimmed so as not to catch the bar end weight. I spend a bit of time here so there wouldn't be much of a gap. With the wires in the right spot, "No One" has ever noticed that they were heated grips.
Running the wire through the ignition is a better idea. Let me know where and what colour wire you slice into.
Good luck. When you've finished you'll agree the job isn't hard. Just a pian!

GDYUP'S heated grips are "horn " I've tried em but as I'm not that soft, I've passed

He probably got some "geezer" to fit em, if truth's known

You laughing too "LURKER AL" Intercom's on the way !!!!!!

GDYUP

Not that soft eh! When was the last time you took off at 0600 when all aound is frozen? Or even rode that nickel plated, jewel encrusted missile of yours when the sun is down?
I would have had an old Geezer fit them if I had have know him then.

Yeah I'm old and I'm soft. But still riding and not talking.

Hmmmm let's see, 0600 & all around is frozen eh GDY ?

I know ! it was when I rode my CB 72 to RMIT in the 60's
& had to put my hands around the cylinders to thaw out ! No poofy cream puff heated grips for us back then laddie

Night riding ? well ya got me there Every time I go on rides with you blokes we never get far enough to actually see the sun go down

Thx for the tips Phil, got the grips on nicely now. Not going to go with the relay idea as it'd mean that it'd [relay] be constantly be switched on and I don't like that idea. I checked out the wiring diagram in the manual and I'm gonna test out the line that runs the Horn and Brake lights I think was the other thing on it, running on a 5A fuse.. Grips @ 24Watt, 12V should = 2A. hmm

The first time I did a long haul on the Busa I had to return 3 hours in the wet, cold and wind from Wangaratta to Melbourne, and worst of all is I did it on the freeway, all the way back. By the time I got to Cragieburn my hands were frozen numb and so were my feet. My helmet was fogged up and it was shit scary.
If heaters were an option in a car, how many people wouldn't get them?

No excuse for a fogged up visor these days. Fog city stick on anti fog shield. You cannot fog them up. I've even got on on my tinted visor. (Pin lock anti fog visors are also good)
Plus the turtle neck warmer. I only ever suffer from cold feet now. Does anyone make electric boots???
Cheers, Phil. Riding not hibernating.
