Yeah GDY, one of the best of the oldies was the Ariel Red Hunter, Cost me 8 pounds PLUS the Royal Enfield 125 as a trade Great machine though

I reckon that 1200 Chief would be worth many many thousands nowadays, if only

My Dad had an AJS 1000 side valve V twin (amongst many others) & I remember getting carted around the countryside in the sidecar when you didn't need a helmet for rider/passenger/pillion

rocket rod 7777

Yeah theres some classic bikes in that lot, although the old pommie oil leakers where a bit before my time It makes me reminisce bout the old kwakers i used to own.In fact i saw one of the new naked thous the other day and i must admit,i'm very impressed,in fact i think this will be my next steed. I'm going to go back to my grass roots so to speak, but dont worry this will not happen in the immediate future, ive still got pleny of ks to rack up on the busa yet, shit i've only had it 8 months

GDYUP

I wonder whether the kids of tomorrow will be laughing at our misisles of today. They will do the 1/4 in 5 seconds top out over 400 klm/h and weigh 150 kilo's?
Some how I doubt it. What do you rekon Rev?
I never thought they'd make a bike quicker than my old GPZ1100 back then. (What a joke) It used to tank slap at about 240 klm/h and couldn't go round corners. (Poxy skinny rear tyre etc...)
MMmmm... Food for thought.
Cheers, Phil. Riding and thinking it won't get any better than this...

CHOP/CLMNTS/GDYUP: Interesting comments from you all The older bikes I never kept for long because someone always wanted to buy them from me & most were unreliable so I didn't argue & a sale always meant a new purchase & maybe something more interesting

One thing about the old timers was that they soon taught you how to fix things & by age 16 I could change piston rings, do valve grinds, fix magneto's etc etc as I didn't have the cash to pay to have it done

My first decent road bike was the Honda CB 72 250 that valve bounced at about 10,000 RPM Cost me $749 new at MAYFAIR MOTORS in Elizabeth St in 1967.

Heads up I believe there's going to be a "back to Elizabeth St" bike expo coming up soon so I'll expect to see you all there

fOUND IT BY BROWSING

ressac

..along with bike history, what of an explanation of user names? (or is this too personal - I have no experience or manners with discussion boards)

some people have some baffling user names..

SubRX
rev01
acbusa
Throwdown
Volvi
RaZ80
wearlej
Viking
OhzOne
hd064

Others I think I've got, ie, surnames (demeester), mis-spelled first names (jewell), licence plates GDYUP (anonymously discussed the busa with you at Yea prior to buying one), or expressions of sexual prowess (perhaps) Xhiler8r, rocketrod, Slong, hawkwing racing....

anyone I missed, apologies

rev 01

Ressac: You go first, we're all a bit shy in here, aren't you GDYUP

CHOP: Right on regarding that evil Mach 3 triple
It was a prang wobbling & grinding around looking for somewhere to happen, managed to hang onto the horrible thing & here I am, no disc brake on mine either

rocket rod 7777

Well you dont have to be a rocket scientist to work out my board name.My name is Rod and when i was younger i was a bit of a teararse on my bikes,so hence the nickname Rocket!

AeroCat4

Well, AEROCAT4 breaks down as:
AERO - my job and interest is a Aircraft Mechanic (L.A.M.E.) and a Pilot,
CAT - luv the Caterpillar earthmoving machinery and sometimes wear while riding my Busa a black and yellow NASCAR racing jacket with their logo on the back of it that shines up at night (looks cool from a distance!!),
4 - my lucky number!

Peter

A Real Jewel

Still waiting to hear what a "resac" is...

SubRX is an abbreviation of his favourite cage - the Subaru Liberty RX.

And speaking of number plates, mine is OHP-00 - an euphamism for what I'm usually thinking when tearing through Sydney traffic at 200kph Jules - always smiling, it keeps everyone guessing!

AeroCat4

Miss Real Jewel , what is a "Euphamism" in what you mentioned last??? Pete
