50km speed limits have just been implemented across country NSW. It is not going down well here in Orange:">
Everyone that I have spoke to about it says its CRAP.
More cameras, slower speeds, what does this add up to?.$$$ for the Gov:">
I saw the opposition transport minister on the 730 report last week, his promise " if we get elected we will reduce the number of speed cams in NSW " They have got road users so scared of going a few kms over the limit that when riding or driving instead of watching the road we are constantly looking down at the speedo!!!.... I wonder how any accidents or deaths are caused by this practice, has anyone had a near miss because of this? Does speed really kill? I disagree.

Yeah I'm really sick of having a non-diving premier - it's not only the speed cameras but the state of the roads suck! .......

Will that be your next number plate slogan...

NSW - The State of the Roads

rev 01

Bracks reckons that projected speed camera revenues for fiscal 04 will jump $100 mil :"> :"> :">

If they are a deterent, then how could this be so ?

Must be revenue raisers after all

I heard that if you're done by a camera, and it is your first offence (i.e either first offence or first offence after getting all your points back) then you can ask for a warning instead. Apparently 'they' only let that cat out of the bag after they pretty much nabbed everyone ... so now the info is pretty much useless.

anyone want to do some line lockies on Bracks' lawn tonight?

Hehehe - good one Richard

I have clocked up 150000 kms traveling to and from Port Douglas QLD to VIC on 2 hyabusas from 1999 to present.
Just recently I was booked speeding 120 in 100 zone."The first time in 25 years of riding". While one of our finest was doing the deed I noted the other was off to the side taking pictures of my bike and myself,I asked if this was legal and the reply was "yes we don't need your permission and that they were keeping a data base on all fast bikes as there is a lot of runners since the new laws came in.Well surprise surprise.
While I am traveling it is quite easy to keep an eye on the road and avoid wild life and keep within 100/110 range with out checking dials
On the last trip down I was so worried about VICs cameras and the ridiculous 3 km leeway that as I was checking the dials for the umpteenth time I hit a roo on the Great Ocean Road.
This accident was cased by a revenue raising government's. I should be able to sue the bureaucrat that takes credit for introducing the new money raising schemes.
Sorry about the bitch had to get it off my chest.

Throwdown

I hate having to look down at the speedo all the time when I am riding safely but uncertain if I am 5-10km over, - it's stupid that we have to. I've taken to following the fastest car just so I can keep my eyes on the road. A police cadet I know says it's a good strategy as they can't hand out two tickets.

When I was a kid they showed us future bike helmets with fans to stop visor mist up, and 'head-up' pilot style displays so we could keep our eyes on the road while reading our speed, fuel level, tacho etc...

Cars have had new technology by the bus load in that time, but bikes have seen nothing like the same.

Good on ya Busakhan... i love the long distance riding having done brisbane to melb once a year (until recently cause now i live here) and meld to cairns a few times. However, I seemed to get booked every trip and always in the qld half of the trip. I havnt been booked in vic since '93 when i was on P's. Seems the vic police like me?

A Real Jewel

Hi Busakhane. I'm not an experienced rider but I am experienced when it comes to taking on cops (I can't stand 'em); what state were you in when you were booked and they took the happy snap of the Busa? I don't think that what they were doing was legal and you can make an application under Freedom of Information legislation to see just what that state's police service has on you and your Busa and ask what they intend to do with it (this shouldn't fall to the same category as crown privilege). To my mind, all they were doing was exercising their common law right to take the photo and you could have exercised your common law right to refuse to allow it - there's nothing they could have done about it since you were only being issued with a fine for an infringement and not actually under arrest. As such, they were breaching your rights for not having explained any of this to you.

I loathe coppers who think they know it all when in actual fact they are infringing our rights as basically law abiding citizens, trying to have some harmless fun on our bikes and not out there doing something about REAL criminals!!!!!:"> :"> :"> If all they want to do is collect revenue, they should join the ATO!!! Jules - always smiling, it keeps everyone guessing!
