What are the best type of tinted visors to get - iridium, dark grey, blue.....?? For my ARAi helmet, I previously had a dark grey, but when the bugs struck it at fast speeds, it would virtually peel of the tint when I went to go and clean them off !! I want a hard type coating that won't stratch easily!
Where's the best place in Melb. to get visors at a good price for the ARAI RX7R helmet??

p.s. - I'm definitely going to be hitting some serious bugs/animals riding across the Nullabor soon - might need a Titanium Brain Bucket??!!

Unfortunatly, no such thing as a scratch free visor. Probably genuine are the best.I bought an aftermaket one once.....never again. You get what you pay for. I like the iridum ones best as you can stare at car drivers at lights and psyche them out. Not bad for purving either

I have a genuine blue iridium on my RX7R. Couldnt live without my tinted visor - my eyes being allergic to natural light and all

Expensive ($130 thank you very much) but tops anyway.

I had iridium couple of years back, loved the tint but found it receding or 'blotchy' and that was only a few weeks after purchase. Took them back to Peter Stevens and got normal dark tint.

Are the ones these days any better?

PS. Love my RX7R3, wont have any other type.

Silly question time. What do you guys do at night? Do you put on a clear visor?

Beestroyer

The iridium visors do scratch very easily. They look cool but you have to be careful. I just have a dark tint and they last me a few years before theyre too scratched (a few years of riding every day, none of this weekend warrior jumbo).

At night the tint is fine in the city. Cuts out that headlight glare. In the country its a bit more dificult. I'll usually swap to the clear if I'm going out of a streetlight lit area at night.

bigshowbusa

rai, you could go with a half tint visor. Not bad during the day and not bad at night...
re: iridium visors, need to be careful to use something soft to clean them (not tissues made from sawmill residues - they scratch) ie cotton balls or a soft cloth...

As much as I like the look of tinted visors I just couldn't be F*@#ed having to change it at night. I use a clear visor and a pair of sunnies. You just have to be careful when having a perve at the lights!

ac boosa

I can be frigged changing the visor either - okay with the old (brick) Shoei RF7 which has by far the best visor release mechanism, but with the Arai it isnt worth the effort. However I ride with the iridium during the day and chuck on a pair of yellow 'night vision' sunnies at night. If you havent tried this give 'em a go - amazing the better vision you get.

I dont know if it is just me but I dont see the point wearing sunnies with a helmet. Without sunnies you have a perfect un-obstructed 180 deg panaromic view. Chuck on sunnies and well, I feel like I am in a car with the obstruction of view from the frames.

opinions?

rai1300

I am glad i am not the only one that hates changing the visor. Takes me ages with my AGV helmet. Have to be extra careful etc.

OK Yellow night glasses? Is this effect you get after a bottle wine or a few beers?

ac boosa

na - that's goggles. you know, the ones that make the fat barmaid look hot

YELLOW GLASSES AT NIGHT RULE

rai1300

You mean... They can make a fat barmaid look hot. AND I won't get a hangover? Got to get me some!

ac boosa

sorry. a hangover's part of the deal D">

AC BOOSA, I haven't had a tinted visor for over a year now. Putting on sunnies is no hassle in the ARAI helmet. I wear a similar type sunnies like the Oakley E-Wire thin frame sunnies. Any of those big plastic frame cheap sunnies are useless and get pushed out from helmet movement. All you need is just thin frame slightly wrap-round, small lens sunnies.

I will be getting just the normal dark tint visor from Top Gear M/C for $70 in a minute. But, I will be wearing a combination of sunnies and tinted visor riding across to Perth due to always chasing sun to the west. The bright yellow ball will always be in my face at visor height - bloody bright for hours!! Seem like a long day too!! I've also found you can wear tinted visor at night - not too bad, average in country - f****d if ever fogs up!!

Got an Arai Quantum F wth an iridium silver visor.... very cool. Only one issue... treat the visor with the same respect you'd give a $500 pair of Oakleys (same lens treatment)

DON'T, however tempting, remove bugs by wiping off with your hand or a cloth.

Only wash under running water with mild dishwashing detergent and your hand.... don't use fingernails, sponges, scourers, etc.

Shake off most water and pat dry with a soft terry towel. I use a meguires one specifically for my visor only.

Another tip: Lens cleaning solutions work, but after a couple of months the coating develops little spider web like cracks.

No matter how careful you are though - IRIDIUM VISORS WILL GET SCRATCHED - but longevity is traded for an awesome anti-glare view without darkening the picture like tinted visors. I find that even in the country, an iridium visor is fine at night. Saying that, you should still expect 12 months to a visor.
