Achilles

Hi all,

Achilles here, feeling a little depressed actually, looks like I have to sell the bus. Anyway, I changed the oil and filter yesterday etc etc, and I took it for a spin and noticed that it is now a little difficult to change up from 5th to 6th (and has the same two stage feel as going from 1st to second). It is getting tight mid way between and you have to give it an extra push up to get it in. I also hit a false neutral (just the once). Weird, I didn't have this problem prior to the service, now I do. I have fed her the right gear - Motul 10w-50 etc etc, so not sure.

It doesn't stop the bike from performing, just feels different from the day prior. Anyone got an idea on this (please).

Oh yer, I also re-adjusted the shifter down a little to make for less travel.

Cheers

I had the same problem with my 04. Was very common. Happened 2 or 3 times a day. Only happened at slow speed with no load on the box. ie 70klm changing 4 to 5 & etc. Has never happened when loaded up or at decent speed.
Hasn't happened in the last 5mths. Have absolutely no clue wht caused it or what made it stop.

Check the tension on your chain, usually if there is too much play it will do this.
Tighten it up using the adjusters at the rear of the swing arm if its loose.
I think of hand you need about 20 mm play.

This makes a big differance to the gear change.

Thanks Evil Clap and everyon else for your tips.

I just checked the play - how about 45mm(and it might even be more as the chain hits the bottom of the swing arm before it gets to full tension) but suffice to say, it is not within the 20mm - 30mm range as specified in the manual. WTF! I just had the sprockets and chain replaced by the service agent - oh well, we all make mistakes (I'd better go and check the sump plug). Hopefully re tensioning the chain will sort this problem out. Will let you know.

Achilles are you in Brissy??? If so did you use Springwood Suzuki???
I bought my 04 from them 2nd hand. Got a good deal but that's as far as it went. I had the first service done there & they lost 3 faring clips & the spacers / washers under 2 out of the 3 left peg bolts. When I went back they said they were missing when the bike went in, which I new they were not. Then I said, OK they were missing, why didn't you replace them? or call me & tell me they were missing & ask if I wanted replacements. They just shrugged & walked away.

4 weeks later the battery died on the way to work. I called them to ask if they had a replacement & could they get it to me. (I was 5klm away) They said we have one. But you'll have to come & get it. I was quite happy to pay any cost involved. I wasn't asking for anything free. They still had no interest in helping me out.

I've never been back since & will never go back.
Pitty really, my wife was an environmental inspector with the Logan Council & she said that SS had the cleanest & best kept workshop in Logan. If they keep treating their customers like they did me, it'll stay clean from lack of use.
