Any one interested in a over-night ride to Snake Valley???? About 25mins west of Ballarat.
I'm a member of the Astronomical club up there. I can arrange for the Astro club members to gather at the usual spot & set up all of their scopes for the Busa club members to check out the night sky.

We can head up Saturday on an easy ride.
Check out the stars, planets & galaxies on Saturday night.
Have an easy cruise back home on Sunday.

There's plenty of accomodatiuon in Ballarat, but I'm checking to see what's available in Snake valley.

Let me know how many are interested (if any) And I'll get accomodation & facility details.

Here's a small taste of what you will see.
These nights are great fun but freezing cold.
When I was living in Adelaide back in 85 we had a Cometose party up in the hills to watch Halley's drift past.

One guy fell in the fire but the rest of us had fun.
At Snake Valley the Astro club meets on the local footy feild. (No fires....) We have acess to the club room which has a heater, a micro-wave, a couple or reasonably comfy couches & toilets.

I would definately be interested in coming along, if it fell on the right weekend. Pi_thumbsup

if this happens when its warmer let me know :) would love to take someone to it!
The New Moon (no moon can be seen) is the best time for viewing the stars etc. It's nice & dark. No bright light in the sky.
The New Moon doesn't fall on any Saturday night for the rest of the year, but the dates below are pretty close & so the moon wouldn't be too bright.

Other weekends would also be OK. just wouldn't see quite as much as on a moonless night

AUG. 11th & 12th
SEPT. 8th & 9th
OCT. 13th & 14th
NOV. 10th & 11th
DEC. 8th & 9th

So the above weekends would be the best "seeing". Can I get people to nominate which would suit best & we make a decision from there. Hopefully to suit as many as possible.

You can only please some of the people some of the time.
Just to try to keep the interest. Here's another pic of the moon I took tonight just a few minutes ago. I've got my scope set up in the back yard a Mulgrave.

I would be happy with either the August or September date Very Happy
OK all, here are the choices.

1) Motel in Ballarat. 25 mins from Snake Valley
Your choice of price range & facilities

2) Snake Valley Camp $20/ person (Minimum of 10 people)
There are 12 very basic bunkhouses ranging from 2 bed up to 8 bunks (upper & lower bunks), a massive fully contained kitchen (ALL cooking utensils, dishes, cutlery) with 3 fridges, oven, microwave etc etc. Large grassed area (that's our observing field), large dining room for about 50 people, Small lake for fishing, swimming etc, and a Shower block like a Caravan Park, and an outdoor BBQ.

The owner/manager does not stay around, he lives in Geelong. He charges for a minimum of 10, even if only a few turn up. So the more people coming, the cheaper it is.
They can camp on the observing field too if they want, but he still charges the same rate per person.

His fees for our 4 night Camp are $13.20 per person per night, but I'm not sure what he would charge for just one night. I've never seen any of his fees over $20, so it would be safe to say $20 per night per person. All they need to bring is bedding and food. Matresses are supplied but not the bedding.
Come on you slack buggers. Anyone else interested?????
Time is irrelevant in the Hayabusa Universe Louwai..

Give them a little while to gather their thoughts.

Then when you least expect it... You get the BIG BANG!
