I'd like to know people's opinions about brake rotors...

I feel my brakes work really well at high speed and at low speed. They are stock OEM with braided lines. I find that on track days after 4x20min sessions they get quite sponge-like and the lever will come all the way to the bar.

I have heard that wave rotors allow the heat to escape and hence brake fluid doesn't heat up as much, therefore brakes do not sag after prolonged use.

I've heard cast iron is great, but from what I understand they are not necessarily going to last longer on track days just because they grip better.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Pan ,who told u re iron dont last long?? I had a set on a race bike (GSXR750) for 2 seasons + track days and practise. Now thats a lot of braking(he sold them when he finnished and i think they are still going). Also the sponge lever is the whole braking system, eg lines ,pads ,calipers, master cyl and fluid. But usually the fluid boils up due to the rotors over heating, could be wrong though.
Hi Kawa. I meant that iron rotors don't last as long as wave rotors on a track, not "don't last long"... I should've explained it better...

I guess I'm asking more about wave rotors to reduce overheating as I don't want to go into changing master cylinder, etc...

Also, I've heard there's Chinese stuff out there, but may not be too good. Any ideas?
I think the iron are approx 20% better cooloing than any stainless rotor, and they wont fade as quickly as the stainless and they will stop u better than stainless.

The only fade I get out of my iron rotors is the Brain Fade that happens after too long in the saddle. The brakes never fade. Mind you, I ride like a girl.Boobies4

If you ride like a girl Max, what does it say about me?
ya all girls?? :)

Busanthony

i got the Alth wave rotors from kawasuki, all i can say is awesome.

i have done about 1000kms now and the will stop on a dime using one finger braking. i have bradied line, kawa special pads (ferredo) and stock cylinder/ pots.
Pan is a track day animal!

Organic pads may be of assistance in helping reduce heat transfer.

With road use, a heavily serrated rotor design is going to trap more crud and result in shorter life. as compared to an OEM style rotor.

I think that you may still have a little air in the plumbing.

From the Braketech Website:

WHY SHOULD I CONSIDER CAST IRON BRAKE ROTORS OVER STAINLESS STEEL?
Over the years, cast iron has proven itself to be an excellent rotor material providing superior "feel" and producing a higher coefficient of friction at the friction couple. If you're looking for genuinely improved performance in terms of both braking power and modulation, then this is for you. If rain and or high humidity is the rule and rust potential a concern, you may wish to consider the alternative in our new AXIS range which is now offered in premium 400 series Stainless Steel as well.

Hey Razza,
if you have ridden with Heidi, you'll know that some girls ride very hard. Don't mess with Heidi on the road, I have problems even keeping her in sight when she decides to turn it on.Biker
