Reading through various posts about how members with genuine needs (ie: accident) receive so much support and so many offers of bits and pieces from other members got me thinking.

We've probably all got bits and pieces we'd be happy to give away to another member in genuine need (maybe for the cost of postage) or at a very small price - but there's no central spot someone can go to to locate them. I'm talking 'genuine need' here, not profiteering.

I for one have a standard screen, standard chain guard and standard front pegs I'd be happy to give away to someone who needed them.

So, I was wondering what people thought of the idea of having a sticky thread called 'Parts Bin' in the Buy, Sell, Swap area where each member could list what items they've got lying around and mention if they are willing to give them away to a fellow member in genuine need - or what 'mates rates' price they might be willing to sell the part for. If we include our mobile number (or an email address we check regularly) it means members in need can contact us even when we have not visited the board for a while.

There would be no need to mention postage / delivery costs because the thread would operate on "Receiver pays all costs" basis.

All we have to do is keep our own listing up to date (remove items given away).

Seems like a good way to provide support to fellow members. I'd be interested in your feedback before I create the "Parts Bin" thread though.
Not a bad idea, however. Some ppl may prefer to keep theyre parts for a 'rainy day'. some may be reluctant to just give away to an 'unknowner'. Its one thing helping out a known club member and another with a newbie coming in saying ahh yummy free stuff yea I'll take that and that, next you might see them on ebay.

Maybe a better way going about this is to have a "free parts registrar" listed with one person who those willing to offer up pieces in a PM. he registers the part and owner in his list. Its not that publicised but members will know after a while whom to contact requesting if they have such a spare part. Then "registrar" informs them whom to contact for said part if available........and you can be the registrar!

Just another idea to bandy around.
