Great!!!!
Unfortunately I won't be there on Sat night, only Friday night for me.
(that is if DjPete is still coming on Friday night, otherwise I can easily change to Sat night.) But I can certainly let the others know you are coming & they will look after you.

The local astronomy guys are a friendly lot Grouphug & they are more than happy to show others their gear & what can be seen.
+ the local SV astro club chairman is a Harley manIdiot2, but I won't hold that against him. Lol3
Just about to head out & set up the scope in the back yard.

Man if next Friday night is anything like it is tonight, it'll be an awesome sky to look at.

lindsay busa

cool looking forward it to next weekend and a long weekend to i can have a look around in my 4x4

DjPete

im looking good so far...
Snake Valley is 20 min drive SW of Ballarat.

Snake Valley Camp is about 3km south of the Snake Valley main drag, on the road to Linton.

Camp site is
37 deg 38 min 25 sec S
143 deg 35 min 22 sec E

When you head out along the road from Ballarat, there'll be signs to SV Camp.

Just a TomTom reference would be good.
I can get to Snake Valley via TomTom but then I will have to wing it...

Lindsay, 'Camp site' means the "Snake Valley Astro Camp" which is where you need to go. Sorry for giving the wrong impression.

Pete,
there'll be sign on the road from Ballarat & then also on the 'back' roads to the site.

Shouldn't be dificult to find.

Feel free to call me if you have trouble.

I know it's a bit of a silly question but which end do u look through...the fat or the skinny end...???

Hey does any one know where Snake Valley is?
Doesn't matter I will use this thing...now what end???

DjPete

Uranus better be showing tonight Bryan.
I'm even bringing my daughter for a bit of a look!
Well, For those that turned up, Friday night was spectacular.

About 25 or so telescopes ranging from 3" to 16".
Some great sights. There was no moon, which meant a darker sky & more distant objects could be seen.

An awesome meteor burn was seen which litterally looked like & was as bright as fireworks.
Just ask DJPete, He saw it......
Hope you guys enjoyed it........

DjPete

Thanks for the invite Bryan.
My 11 yo daughter and I loved it.
Yes, that shooting star was amazing it was so big and bright.
And we saw Saturn (rings and all), a black hole with stars getting sucked into it, lots of special stars including one which is supposed to be the largest in the solar system...
Met some nice people too who were more than happy to let us peer through their scopes.
If you haven't done it try it.

The weather made it extra special, an absolute perfect warm night, no wind, no cloud, no bugs!

I'll never look up at the sky the same again...

lindsay busa

i was there sat night got see some good stars then clouded over about 1130pm
