Busdriver

I've got a weeks leave and thinking of riding the Bus down to Melbourne to the old folk's at Sunbury.

BUT,

My mother is nagging at me not to,

My brother has offered to buy me tickets with his frequent flyers and fly me down and back,

My mother is nagging still,

and my wife said why don't I fly down, I can ride down anytime. (yeah, right)

Flying sounds nice, and quick. Get a whole 2 days exta in Melbourne,

BUT,

The idea of a road trip to Melbourne, stopping and having a squiz at things you never get to with the family in the car, is sort of appealing.

The Bus has JUST had it's 12,000k service. (It was new at the end of Jan 06). I've got enough back tyre left for the return trip.

Any one ever done a solo ride that far?

AND, Mum is still nagging.

Just checked the forcast for Melbourne.

Could be riding into showers and thunderstorms by the time I get there.

Might fly down. Murphy will make it exceptional riding weather if I do.

I just did the whole solo trip from melbourne to canberra, took about 7-8 hours, taking it easy, I'd avoid the Hume if you do try it. Bored shitless most of the time.

The trip was fine, just the Canberra bit didn't really agree with me

The Frankenbusa will rise again!!!

I just drove the car Sydney to Melbourne (9 hours including 1 hour stop) and then Melbourne to Sydney (10 hours, including a few stops and lunch break with Bandit)...

Just watch the speed cameras as soon as you cross into the Victorian border on the Hume Hwy. There's one about every 2km and no warning that you're approaching them (as you get in NSW)...!

Well, I bit the bullet and did it. I am now in Melbourne. Came down the Hume so I didn't have to go thru town. 5.2 litres per 100k / 19.1 klms per litre for the trip (according to the trip meter) Lot's of bikes on the way back up the Hume.

Thanks to whoever it was on the north bound Busa at Holbrook who gave me the word on what was waiting down the road for me.

Victorian road safety - stick cameras ever where. F*!k Spend more time watching the speedo rather than where you are going.

Interesting sight at the on ramp to the Hume at Seymour. P Plater tried to sneek up the side of a B-Double on the ramp. As the road thinned both truck and car had nowhere to go. Car dissappeared in a blue black clound of tyre smoke. Flat spotted all four of 'em I reckon. Then both pulled up and started having physical words to each other. Cop going the other way not a minute later would sort them out.

Over all - A great ride. The Busalistic Missile did it well.

Hey Max,

Yep, Mine's one of those "old" Busas now. At least I ride mine. Pretty soon there will be only me and Heidi in the gang. Dan's sold his Bus and there is a pic around of you test riding a scooter.

Geez I have put 11,000 on mine since March this year. It was bought brand new and I can't stop riding it. Anyway see you out and about sometime.

Hey BusDriver,
You'd have noticed that Amanda was on the back - to aid me in getting the awesome 5 - 7 horsepowers on the ground. Mind you, we stopped at one stage waiting for Mary and Alexander on their 4 Wheeler to get moving, and our scooter wouldn't move, I had to put my feet on the ground and "peddle" to get us moving up the hilly driveway. Probably too much power for one of those "Nancy Boy" MT03 cruisers, but not as quick off the mark as a Bus - we're safe for the moment!

Max - where were those flameproof undies?

Went into town today....by train. Having a look around at the bike shops in Elizabeth Street for helmets. There were a lot more bike shops in Elizabeth Street when I was growing up. Anyway, a brand new '06 Bus for $15990 (+ ORC i think). Maybe I could trade my old 12,000 k Busa in on a new one???

Most of the bikes I saw parked on the streets all had tyres that looked like they'd been ridden in nothing but a straight line.

Would have been nice to ribe the bike into town but I got lit up by car driver's targeting radar 3 times just getting through Sunbury. Don't know how you Melbournians keep it up.

Hey Max. With all this riding going on, are you suffering withdrawal symptoms yet?

The bikes in Paris and the other cities we have visited have been mostly scooters, the small 4 strokes followed by a large number of TDM style road/trail bikes. On the way back from Moulin Rouge last night we saw so many little bikes weaving through tight traffic. Looked like a lot of fun, but very risky. Missing the bike but will be home soon enough to get on the old girl. Would you mind having a squizz at our roster to see what I'll be on immediately after the 29th Sept please?

Thanks old boy.

I"ve just come accross your bit about riding to Melbourne by yourself and comments about 12,000 klms being old. I"m on my second Busa I got Written off With 165,000 klms in 3years4 mts. got a second bike and have done 71,000 in 18 mths. I've done 2200klms in 2days one up and enjoyed every minute of it and quite a few 1000 k days , next month I'll be doing a 15000 kl day ride Bris. to Townsville just for fun, I"ll be videoing it with a tank camera to prove it. By the the 2200 trip I did each way in 10hours including stops, it was fun. Enjoy your riding fellas,by the way I'm 66yrs.old.

Good onya Cowboy. You forgot to mention carting Dallas around with you for many of those Ks.

The older we get the less pain we feel.
Oldmanbusa and I plus some friends did over 900k last Thursday but I must say we were all glad to pull up for the night.

Someone in the ACT rides their busa. There was a black purple at the track with a couple of wolf stickers on the nose cone. I thought it may have been Heidi's but must be someone else.
