A biker,or two are not worth much in the eye of the law.
Two people,a man and wife, in their sixties, enjoying life on a bike ride get slammed and killed by a speeding driver in Western Australia and he gets four and a half years jail. Probably be out in two.
Probably said he didn,t see them.
The law stinks.

I hope he gets to meet some nice "friendly" gentlemen while he's in jail. Grouphug
similar story in the ACT a few years ago a man and his wife were cruising along at the speed limit on a lovely sprng day in the ACT when some little pee wee head with out his license looses control of a burnout he was doing in a carpark along side the road and shoots off into the lane killing both the motor cyclist and his pillion instantly latter was found she was pregnant. the guy who did it ended up serving 6 months gaol time from memory and a heap of comunity service and that was about the limit of is punishment. now imagine if that story had been reversed and it was the bike plowing into the car and killing people there would have been an instant knee jerk reaction condemming bikers good or bad. its a sad fact but we as a motorcycling community are seen as more of a problem rather than being seen as using a heap less fuel and taking up less parking space to name a few. But i think it all boils down to the fact that the general public forget we are actually part of the human race with friends and family. you can hear people calling us temporary citizens etc and if one of us do die whether its our fault or not, whether we were "hooning" or obeying the road rules it can be heard muttered somewere "oh well just another biker gone, its there own fault" i say f*** that and i also say f*** you to who ever i hear saying shit like that

I remember that one really well. The media started off the way they always do, 'a motorcyle pillion was killed today, we are looking to see if speed was a factor'. The initial reports had NOTHING about some fuckwit in a car that was doing a burnout and took out a bloke and killed his pregnant wife and left their three little girls without a mother. The media makes me really cross with their reporting of motorcycle issues.
Last time I was in Brisy I arranged to meet a mate in the Riverside car park. He rides a GSXR1000.
While waiting for him in the bike parking area near the entry I was talking to the attendant.
I mentioned that in Vic bikes don't pay for parking or road tolls.
His reply;
1) We make them pay full price, same as a car.
2) We are trying to get rid of them out of here, they are a pest.

Pretty narrow minded considering they can fit 4 or 5 bikes to 1 car space & they charge the same $$$$
You'd think they'd be trying to get rid of the cars.

I get the same thing with 4x4's - i own a big bastard nissan patrol - every time there is an accident that involes a 4x4 its always hyped up saying they should not be on the road and that they kill people ... blah blah blah , what they dont mention is often its the other guy in the ricer or the volvo that was at fault .......

how many times have you heard of a 4x4 reversing over a child ?????

now how many time do you hear the same thing for the standard sedan? hardly ever? so it does not happen ??? - it does but does not make for a good story ......

Recently we came under fire for 4x4ing it APPIN ( south west of sydney ) a clip turned up on youtube called appin4x4 wombat holes -- or something like that. the media claimed that we are reckless and vandals and we are killing wombats by driving over wombat holes .......

NOW , if they bothered to take 1 min and do some research the term " wombat holes" refers to a bunch of holes on a path that are uneven and require your vehicle to have very good articulation to be able to drive them - they have NOTHING to do with wombats at all , they are created by rain and erosion. Off coarse the 4x4 clubs shot of nasty emails to ACA but they never bothered to retract there comments.

Not sure if this has been posted on here yet so here goes -

Bikers are people too..............

The Biker

I saw you, hug your purse closer to you in the grocery store line.
But, you didn't see me, put an extra $10.00 in the collection plate last
Sunday.
I saw you, pull your child closer when we passed each other on the
sidewalk.
But, you didn't see me, playing Santa at the local mall.
I saw you, change your mind about going into the restaurant.
But, you didn't see me, attending a meeting to raise more money for the
hurricane relief.
I saw you, roll up your window and shake your head when I rode by.
But, you didn't see me, riding behind you when you flicked your cigarette
butt out the car window.
I saw you, frown at me when I smiled at your children.
But, you didn't see me, when I took time off from work to run toys to the
homeless.
I saw you, stare at my long hair.
But, you didn't see me, and my friends cut ten inches off for Locks of
Love.
I saw you, roll your eyes at our leather jackets and gloves.
But, you didn't see me, and my brothers donate our old ones to those that
had none.
I saw you, look in fright at my tattoos.
But, you didn't see me, cry as my children were born and have their name
written over and in my heart.
I saw you, change lanes while rushing off to go somewhere.
But,you didn't see me, going home to be with my family.
I saw you, complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be.
But, you didn't see me, when you were changing the CD and drifted into my
lane.
I saw you, yelling at your kids in the car.
But, you didn't see me, pat my child's hands, knowing he was safe behind
me.
I saw you, reading the newspaper or map as you drove down the road.
But, you didn't see me, squeeze my wife's leg when she told me to take the
next turn.
I saw you, race down the road in the rain.
But, you didn't see me, get soaked to the skin so my son could have the
car to go on his date.
I saw you, run the yellow light just to save a few minutes of time.
But, you didn't see me, trying to turn right.
I saw you, cut me off because you needed to be in the lane I was in.
But, you didn't see me, leave the road.
I saw you, waiting impatiently for my friends to pass.
But, you didn't see me. I wasn't there.
I saw you, go home to your family.
But, you didn't see me.Because, I died that day you cut me off.
I was just a biker. A person with friends and a family.
But,you didn't see me.

EVEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE US, RESPECT OUR RIGHTS TO RIDE WHAT WE CHOOSE AND
TAKE A FEW EXTRA SECONDS TO BE SURE WE'RE NOT IN "YOUR" WAY
LIVE TO RIDE . . . . RIDE TO LIVE
seen that before and i really like it! i sent it around work one day and one guy had the nerve to come up to me and say that motorcyclists should have to look out for cars and get out of there way and that a car driver should only have to watch for cars not bikes and should a bike be in the cars way when it moves over so be it to teach the biker a lesson. needless to say i no longer work for that company and he will look out for a biker next time her merges or at least before he starts sprouting his great ideas off. gotta love armoured elbow jackets
cant comment,,,, i might go to jail. They see and hear everything we print on these forums..

I love the "I didn't see them" defense. Wonder if it will work the next time I'm in Bunnings randomly swinging an axe as i walk around "accidently" taking little Johnny's head off. "Sorry your Honor but I didn't see him."
"In that case good citizen your free to go." somehow sounds a little wrong so why is it the law accepts this as an acceptable defense in the case of bike deaths?

I'll let you know what the courts say a bikers life is worth after the court case lets say Oct 15.
