Who has made changes re the environment? - DjPete - 10-10-2008

It would be interesting to see how many of you think about the environment since all the publicity over the last few years.

I must admit I never gave a rats, but of late I really think about the waste that is around. Maybe because I am a little older now?
Packaging for eg IMO is ridiculous.

I always separate recyclables now...never did before.
I am conscious that my 4wd is a gas guzzler.
I yell at the kids for wasting food.

For example I went past JB today had a coffe with my daughter and we grabbed 2 JB brochures to read.
On the way back I thought bugger it so I went and put the both of them back in the brochure stand for someone else to read instaed of throwing them in the bin after 3 minutes use.

My wife is an environmental inspector with the Gov DJ. I've been recycling for 13yrs nowPi_thumbsup
No choice.

You might recall I did that thread over a yr ago about asking your mechanic to see their Environmental Certificate.

Not me, not intentionally anyway, I go with the flow, I use unleaded because mans petrol (Super) is no longer available, same with the asbestos free brake pads etc. I side with the Americans on the Kyoto pollution trading scheme.

I’m just a capitalist; if it’ll save me money in the long run, I’ll do it.
I’ve changed all the light bulbs in my house to energy savers and I can see the difference in the electricity bill.
My hot water was already efficient but I added a timer to shorten the hours it works.
I’ve rewired my garage light t come on with the garage door opener and taken the incandescent lamp out (it had blown anyway and those reinforced lamps are bloody expensive)
We’re just going through a big gardening and mulching exercise to try keep our garden alive on less water because up here in Port Douglas and Cairns; the council has decided to charge us for water.
I used to recycle but the wife couldn’t be bothered taking 2 garbage bags out… Don’t worry, I call myself a sexist pig , too :)

If I ever use a condom----- (which I hardly ever do....)
I recycle by turning it inside out and shaking the f%Ck out of it.
Scary

Only recycle things now, never used to, used to do naughty things with spent oil, but not down the drain. Great for your local community, gotta see shitdumps of countries where they don't give a rats for their own community cleanliness to appreciate your own.
There are self made millionaires who have made it on recycling.

Have recycled at home for years now. Makes it easy when the council supply a big wheelie bin just for the job.
At work we have a special recycling program that has been running for nearly 10 years, with all proceeds for the recycled materials going to Princess Margaret childrens hospital . Last donation was close to $250,000

Only if no one dobs you in Pete. Putting oil anywhere other than the approved recycling area is against the law.

Meredith often has to investigate complaints of home owners dumping oil in the yard. Usually it's been reported by a disgruntled neighbour.

Just a stupid bit of trivia...
