Cleaning tips - Champs - 21-12-2008
Cleaned my white today and in the middle of it I thought that there would be an immense experience base here on products, tools and methods to get these beauties sparkling and protect them. Have your say here and it can only be a good thing for the breed all around.
I know for me the rims, especially the chain side needs a lot of attention but I'm a bit iffy on the best methods to use. Had to remove fresh tar from a few spots also due to the slap happy methods sometimes used by our main roads patchwork quilters guild.

i use white spirits on the rims only.once dry whipe off with a cloth.
mr sheen on the rest.
maybe shouldnt have bought black!

Thats a waste of good Vodka,Gin,Tequila,Ouzo,White Sambucca,Rum,Grappa etc

Yeah, small amounts of kero on the rims does the job. As well as the chain - use an old toothbrush to put it on and a chux to wipe it off.
Rinse dirt and dust off the paintwork with warm water and a soft cloth.
Chammi dry and then Mr Sheen all the paint work.
Use a good fine grade metal polish on chrome or stainless steel bits.
I recommend that you don't polish off the protective coating on alloy surfaces because once you do, you have to polish them with metal polish forever.

I agree with the others.
I've been cleaning my bikes for years with Mr Sheen after a wash and dry with warm water if needed. It's especially good on screens, and leaves a bit of silicon behind to stop bugs and stuff sticking on too badly. I'd always used Mr sheen for cleaning tinted windows in cars, but read about cleaning bikes with it many years ago in a bike mag.

Mr Sheen? I wouldn't have thought that but it sounds good and I will have to try it. Glad to see that Little Johnnie Howard has found something to keep him occupied in retirement. Good on him.

I used it on a VN1500 I had... it gives an ok shine.
But despite many using it in the custom scene, I was told to stay away from Mr. Sheen as it contains silicone which can make resprays difficult.
Motul wash-and-wax is a better product imo and it works a lot like mr sheen but gives a nicer shine for less effort and less greasiness. (not to be confused with the motul silicone cleaner)

I use Turtle wax Ultra Gloss Premium Detailer. Comes in a trigger pack spray bottle, just spray on, wipe with a microfibre cloth then use another clean dry microfibre cloth to buff. Gives a brilliant clean, leaves it shiny as just been polished & takes bugs etc right off, no water!

I once used Mr Sheen but if you go through some of the past threads about Mr S there are plenty of pro's & cons and some of the cons made sense to the possible damage to the finish. So I now use Maguires wet look. I'm yet to find anything that makes the black on "Big Love" come up with such a brilliant mirror finish, each to their own though!!!!!!! I think I get more of a buzz just spending the day down the shed having a few J/D's and fussing over "BL"!!!!!

Well I have to agree with Gassick on this one Maguires is a top quality product both the Wet Look or Gold Class Polishes are very good and I also use the Gold Class Wash Gel as well. Very happy with the results.
I have used Mr Sheen and yes it's good I'm not sure about what they say about making it difficult to paint as I've had a couple of bikes resprayed that I only used Mr Sheen on and had no issues.
So all I say pick your weapon and give it ago..
