Engine life? - jamdonut - 22-12-2010

Was wondering what engine life we get out of the Hayas if regularly serviced as per manual and only given stick on weekends? I do not redline mine (much) and she is still going strong at 34k. what is the maimum engine life we can get out of our babies, or should we change them when they reach a certain amount of kilometres.

Got no facts to back it up ,but I'd say 300,000 should be easy .Gen1.

Funny that, my 100 series landcruiser is up to 290 000 sedate clicks and still runs perfect on gas, never had an issue. But then again I dont do weekenders on it like the haya redlining it ever now and then.

my old 99 has 140000ks reg serviced every 10000 ks with synthetic oil new filter.it is going better than ever.they only start to loosen up at 100000ks.thats experience talking.34000ks its still tight.mine gets to redline now and then mainly hwy ks some acratching on good roads.the engines are bullet proof.

i have never found any documented eveidence to say the hayabusa motor will only last X amount of kilometers ,

its the same as asking how long is a peice of string ?? the motor lasts as long as its serviced and maintained and in that case it should last a life time ,

its the same as asking how long is a peice of string ??

Twice as long as half its' length! Coolsmiley

My old Busa had 112,000 kms
Had it compression tested at 100,000km and mechanic said it was 100%!

Being used in short course off-road Idiot2

Sucking dust and whatever else crap, on redline approx 80% of the time, between 1st and 3rd, and sometimes 4th (short sprints between corners)
Got two years of weekend abuse Smitten out of a 99 with 18tho klms on it before transplant into buggy
Serviced every second event (2 hrs total drive time) Semi synthetic oil, filters etc
Total thrashing time @ redline, Approx 50hrs at a guess before the big end gave in

A 2008, 8 tho klms on clock before transplant, threw a rod after 2 years same treatment if not a little worse than first as is used in Long course off road events
( Higher constant speeds overall )

In a street bike ridden however you like, reckon they would last forever if serviced regularly
No possible way to abuse them like we do in an off-road environment

Hope that helps somehow Coolsmiley

now the hayabusa is properly run in at 15000 ,if you mean when it starts to lose hp depends on how u been taking care of it i would say that if it is properly cared for it should perform to its potential up to about 100000 km and thereafter lose some hp but do not be worried about that it is a very strong built engine and should give u a lot of worrie free klm after that the engine is a gem and would not surprise me if put on a dyno it stil lproduces top hp after 100000 km

RE: Engine life? - 1300hayabusa - 23-12-2010

Bought a gen 1 for a friend with 134,000 always serviced/hardly red lined and the only difference between when it was originally purchased it by the previous owner and the dyno tune done last month"according to the tuner" was a drop of 6 horse power, which is pretty good for a 10 year old bike but not relevant(mates words)as it's getting turbo'd at the end of January with an RCC kit.

my gen 1 has 60,000 now and i show it no mercy,i am gunna ride it till it breaks so when that happens i will let you all know unless ofcourse i kark it first which is on the cards.they are car motors in bikes and some of us have talked about the 200,000 range, one of my mates had a 93 zzr1100 and abused it all it's life and at 180,000 sold it with the head never lifted and compression checked by the kwaka dealer and advised it was still in serviceable range, suzuki's are just as strong motors as that old kwaka zzr,my mate never even washed that bike for about five years, not that washing helps but just to indicate the level of care he had shown it.

Great news then, have been a bit wild with my ride and was wondering when something bad was gonna happen to the driveline, but obviously it wont happen too easily. I remember the ZZR1100 well and the many times they pitted it up againt the GSXR 1100 in the bike magazines in the 90's, good old days. I went the GSXR 1100 which did not last too long when I had an off on it. Still see the odd GSXR 1100 every now and then.

RE: Engine life? - gggsxr11 - 23-12-2010

yes i had a gsx11 while my mate had that zzr and the zzr ate mine up,the thing was my mate used full throttle on that zzr regularly and never spared the engine it also had good brakes it was the big bike of those years to have, check reviews of the zzr's 92 to 96 and the results speak for themselves and i am a witness to their power i followed my mate for years and chased him that thing went seriously quick.
