tight spot in chain - ballsybusa - 18-03-2012
hey all, i havea 06 busa with about 8600kays on it,its seems to have a tight spot on the chain,which you can notice while rideing,when bike is up on rear stand the wheel is a bit hard to move in one spot,is there an easy fix? i got the bike like this,trid to loosen chain abit but its not much better,any help would be great?cheers.

Adjust slack at the tight point regardless of the slack you end up with at the loose point. Paul.

The safest fix is get a new chain. Best maintenance a bike can have is use. Hear lots on these forums about over servicing change the oil clean and and lube the chain. Much more important to ride it. I subscribe to to the use it or lose it theory.

the chain might be streched. turn the wheel half a turn and its tight and half a turn more and lose

All chains have a tight spot. So do what Paul said

thanx heaps guys for your advice,and driller for his sproket,my rear sprocket looks like new,i think my chain is stretched,(i cant pull wheel back any more) dont know why my, bike hasnt done that many kays,i have loosend off at the tightest point,but rest of the chain is now even looser,will take it for a run soon and see how it goes,or i might just buy a new chain:)

Making 8600 kays should not require a new chain unless you bought some shaite to start with thinking you will save money. Some stretch is normal but to the point that you run out of adjuster range sounds scary. Maybe it is too long. I suggest you count the number of links. It should be 112 for Gen 1.

You can't pit a price on safety so I would see no other choice but to put a new chain on. I don't know fast you run but think what would happen if your chain come off and caught around the rear wheel
. The chain can even cause damage to the rear of the bike. they don't cost that much. Just my thoughts anyway.
