I've always replaced batteries with Yuasa

Yuasa is the battery of choice but you should get 3/4 years plus out of any battery.
As far as the way your bikes running, yes, stale fuel can make it ping.
Siphon it out and refill with some fresh stuff.
Probably wouldn't hurt to make sure your tanks clean and rust free at the same time with a mirror and torch.
Chuck some fuel treatment in the first tank as well to run through the fuel system.
A duff battery can also make it run crook. Change this out and see how it goes.

well I went down to Goodchild's and picked up a battery for $80 and have siphoned the fuel out and replaced it with some fresh 98, runs sweet again.I'm sure I could have avoided this if I just used it a bit more.
