Noises - bus99 - 17-03-2004
This was meant to be the question posted under strange noises header but I got side tracked.
When I start her up in the morning she makes this ticking sound it is really disturbing but after a few mins it goes away, a friend says I need to get the shims checked, I just changed da oil an filter to and it still foes it, I thought it was the old oil.
Also after those pricks put the new chain on it makes a whining sound, the sound appears to be coming from the front sprocket area. chain is not over tight.
Is there a special chain that we should use on the bus? they just put a plain Jane chain on, you know the real plain looking one just a dungaree grey metal look, I think I heard once to use a plated chain or something.

Donk know? I got her second hand with 15tho on the clock. Its got the recall sticker under ste seat.

My 02 Cheesecake had dodgy noises right from the start. Told it was cam chain from various mechanics. The dealership couldn't give a toss. And were not interesting in fixing it under warranty. So I had a manual tesioner fitted by a reliable workshopin S/East Vic. Threw the dodgy oil pressue driven tensioner to the shithouse. :">

So should I get a man cam chain tensioner if so how much and by whom should do the work? What bout the noise from the front sprocket, It wasnt there before I got the new chain but my old chain was shagged!

No new3 sprockets as the tossa at the bike shop recomended against it!! Should I put new ones on?? <i></i>

Not if the rear one is nickel plated like mine.
The cost of the sprockets are so cheap you'd be mad not to change them with a new chain.
Going to nail my rear sproket to the wall when it's time for replacement. <i></i>

Yeah well them pricks who are in the game told me not to so whats the go there, I will post for all future services or mods so them F&#k wits tell thye wromg info....
PS What about the ticking noise when I start up in the morn or after worrk its coming from the top end so is it cam chain or what??????
Any advice would much appreciated cause I am concered

I am definitely no expert, but the ticking sound that dies away when it warms could be to do with the auto CCT. Again, no expert, but since there is an oil pressure that is supposed to help keep it tight (and moving up a notch if required), I would have thought that might explain why it only makes the noise when cold. In any case, I think a lot of people are switching to a manual tensioner at some service or another... <i></i>

Try tightening your exhaust headers , a leaky header can tic until its hot and expansion seals it .
I'd be cautious about a manual tensioner there easy to over tighten ,wouldn't let an apprentice near one <i></i>

Just another thought on this,how long since you have had your shims checked?If the clearances are a bit on the large size,that can cause a ticking noise. <i></i>

Aprox how much would this cost and who do you recommend?
I am in Coffs Harbour but will go as far as Sudney or Brisbane for a good specialist Hayabusa guru after my last dealings with mechanics in Orange... (see "strange noise" post)
and is it going to damage anything in the mean time?
