HP ????? - busababy - 16-01-2001

hi all,

the question is, do we really need all this horse power (HP) or pferdestarke (PS - metric equivalent for some) real, fairy or otherwise ???

after all, the maximum legal highway speed is generally around 100k/h and even some 50cc scooters can do that almost quite easily,,

so, does it really matter whether your bike has 157 HP or 162 HP or something even more OR is it just our EGOS?????

cheers
les

Re: HP ????? - jockster - 16-01-2001

The only substitute for horsepower is more horsepower.

If a bike (or car) can reach it's potential top speed in a shorter time span and use less bitumen so much the better,
(for obvious reasons)

LES!! I am AGAST!!

I do hope you are being tongue in cheek. I get asked that question all the time, often prefaced by, 'what does a girl like you need all that horsepower for?' and I say you can never have too much power (or size matter, but that depends entirely on who asks the question).

Re: HP ????? - Hayabusa1999 - 16-01-2001

I don't really think anyone here bought there busa it was the slowest production bike in the world, speaking for myself here I think the power and the speed were the deciding factors in buying this beast.....

PS... since I have the Busa my arms are now about 6" long ..lol

Re: HP ????? - busababy - 16-01-2001

right i agree, but the question is, do we really need MORE than what the world's fastest production bike - our busas, already have???

Re: HP ????? - Volvi - 16-01-2001

"Need" Les, hardly unless you were a racer around the track, where every tenth of a second counts. But big boys that we are, theres always that 'bragging' factor, I for one would find no shame in having a 200hp busa, can't say I would have a need for it, but hey if the Busa was a 120hp compared to a say ZX12 160hp, which one would we ALL be going for? So hp still counts in the end, even if it's just the 'brag' factor. Just as well the Busa has more than 120, coz I can't stand a glorified ninja.

More Power.... - Crash4 - 16-01-2001

I guess if you need to ask "Do we really need all this horsepower" then the answer is No you don't need any more.

However if you're like me and can't understand why you would ask such a question then the answer is Yes.. GIVE ME MORE POWER....

I saw some clown on TV the other night ( a Dr who obviously thought a bit of TV coverage was good for his practice ) who wants all vehicles in Australia to be fitted with speed limiters set at 110km/h. His reasoning was that that's the maximum speed limit is Australia ( except NT which he neglected to mention ) so why does any vehicle need to go faster. Can you imagine that. The Busa limited to 110km/h???? It must have been a slow news day for the TV station to run that sensationalist bullshit hype however they did manage to sucker Peter Brock into arguing the "against" case. It was good for a laugh though.

Either way, whether it's more power or more speed than you can use, give me more of both..

My opinion anyhow....

Les,

Can you ever get enough? Usable power is so important as it is what makes one so much better than the next.

Regards Col

Re: HP - busababy - 16-01-2001

ok ok i am convinced, so give me more, more, MORE, heaps more!

HP - col - 16-01-2001

Les, No problems, how much do you want and how much can you afford? Power costs money how fast do you really want to go? ~

Regards Col

Who needs power - Fast Freddy Gassit - 16-01-2001

Stuff the power.
I want heaps of mono wheeling, tyre smokin' torque.
But as power is a function of torque X revs.....

Re: HP - busababy - 16-01-2001

col, i want as much as i can get without major engine mods, so i can do what Fast Freddy Gassit just said, its not speed i'm after,,

if you get nabbed for speeding you can do your license in a flash (no pun intended), but if you get nabbed monoing, it's only a $105 fine,,
