Had a similar thing on my gen1. Bought a new aftermarket pump, Bypassed the internal teabag filter and fitted n inline one. No problem since

I've tried the heating with a butane torch just won't give. Going in with drill and tap.

Depends how you ride I reckon Shifu . If you use the roads like a racetrack then they probably wouldn't last that long. Last thing I feel like doing on my way to work at 4am dodging loose cows horses ...

I used a nut and bolt and welded the nut to the bolt. Found them both in a bucket of nuts,and bolts at work.
