Battery died while riding

Went for a ride today with a mixed group ,pretty slow Harley leading,then a couple of GSXR'S and a R1 and some others roared past.I was having a ball reeling them in until the f1 light started flashing and the engine stalled,I pulled up switched every thing off and restarted the bike , all good.Then rode 2km's same thing but after a few checks found out the battery had collapsed no power at all even when arced with a screw driver
should a Busa keep running with a dead battery?

Now that's the sort of thing I don't want to happen. I usually ride alone, so carry a phone with me ALWAYS. Trouble is there are lots of black spots in my area. Hope the 'busa never lets me down like that! (or any other way)

What brand of battery / how old / what sort of abuse during its life did it receive(flattenned etc.) ????

not sure of the brand but has been perfect until this[battery was in the bike when I brought it about 10 months ago] and why it restarted and only went 2 or so km's then completely died has me beat.I would of thought the alternater would have kept it going .I will fid out what brand it was for you

Flat battery or a collapsed battery? I haven't looked at the circuit diagram for a 'busa, but none of my other bikes will run without a complete circuit through the battery.

You've tweaked my curiosity now, I've asked a friend that's an auto electrician. His advice was don't even try, there's too much assumption in the circuits about the behaviour of a battery given that alternators aren't designed with this sort of running in mind.

He had all sorts of explanations on how some ECU controlled race bikes manage to run without a battery, but they all revolved around replacing parts that produced and used power.

Thanks for asking around but I don't under stand why it restarted the first time after it stopped running and then die again, only thing I can think of is 1 cell must have completely collapsed.

Same thing happened to my wifes GSX650F when we had potentila buyer on test ride, wondered why it was taking so long for him to come back when he phoned me, bike had stopped, dead battery rooted replaced with new one and fine, charging fine, looks like they won't keep running with dead battery. Oh yeah, he still bought the bike

Sounds very much like what happened with mine...The Rectifier failed thus not charging the Batt. Apparently there has been a batch of substandard rectifiers...

Just checked if the battery was getting charge and it was,about 13.2 volts at idle then around 14.5 v at 2000rpm.
