Hume HWY Wire Rope Barriers (VIC)
#1
Well........we told them but would they listen? Lethal to motorcyclists & of little or no benefit to others.

I was travelling to & from Albury the past few days & while passing Seymour I couldn't help but notice at least 6 (six) 400 metre sections of wire rope barrier completely smashed with the wires ripped from their tether points and sagging between supports onto the ground, providing no protection at all to any road user.

It seems that they can only stand one impact & then they require MAJOR rectification work to re tether cables & re tension the entire system. What a massively expensive & recurringly expensive excercise in futility all that is. With the old Armco, you just bounced off & kept on trucking. Well, we told them so.........
Never ride the A model of anything.

I rode from Canberra to Melbourne on Monday, and remember thinking f***, look at all the wire barriers and how sloppy some were.

There is a length at a major intersection in Newcastle that is repaired at least 1 time per month.
Trucks turning in the slow lane go wide nearly every time.
The thing is, that beyond that rope there is an open field for about 10 metres. The wire rope protects no one and no property.
"If time catches up with you. You're going too slow!"

i often repair them they are used as far as i can see because they are easy to repair and cheap compared to w beam guardrail which still hurts if you happen to hit it but you can slide along w beam and not get sliced up.

they install the cheese cutters because both our governments like to do road safety on the cheap. Europe are removing the cheese cutter because they are dangerouse but our two countrys are putting them in no matter how much the motorcycle groups complain about them its road safety the cheap way more money for them to give themselfs big bonus,s then.
SPEED ISN,T EVERYTHING BUT IT SURE IS FUN.
