Steve Irwin Dies
#1
I just heard talk of that Steve Irwin the crocodile hunter died this morning can anyone confirm this or is it all BS

ok just confirmed it myself
THE Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, is dead.

He was killed in a freak accident in Cairns, police sources said. It is understood he was killed by a sting-ray barb that went through his chest.

He was swimming off the Low Isles at Port Douglas filming an underwater documentary and that' is when it occured.

Mr Irwin's body was being flown to Cairns.

Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a reef fatality this morning at Batt Reef off Port Douglas.

It is believed Mr Irwin's American-born wife Terri is trekking on Cradle Mountain in Tasmania and has yet to be told of her husband's death.

Mr Irwin - known worldwide as the Crocodile Hunter - is famous for his enthusiasm for wildlife and his catchcry "Crikey!".

The father of two's Crocodile Hunter program was first broadcast in 1992 and has been shown around the world on cable network Discovery.

He has also starred in movies and has developed the Australia Zoo wildlife park, north of Brisbane, which was started by his parents Bob and Lyn Irwin.

Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, who used a photograph of his family at Australia Zoo for his official Christmas card last year, hailed Mr Irwin for his work in promoting Australia.
Mr Irwin was heavily involved in last year's "G'Day LA" campaign.

"The minister knew him, was fond of him and was very, very appreciative of all the work he'd done to promote Australia overseas," a spokesman said.

We all have our expiry date. Who would have thought Steve would succumb to a bloody stingray, though! A momentary lapse of concentration and snapped up by a big salty, maybe. Or a bite from a deadly snake, although I'm sure he would have carried a supply of anti-venom.

Like him or not, he was straight up and down, what you saw was what you got. There was no bullshit with Steve. He knew his stuff and had a slightly different way of bringing it to the people than most. He achieved his goal- to educate people about our wildlife and the need to preserve it. A hero of sorts.

I'm sure he'll be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially Terri & the kids, and all the staff at Australia Zoo who are so passionate about what they do.

RIP Steve.

he was a great bloke, a great Australian, he showed no fear in the face of immense danger, and made a living out of something he loved doing.

I am saddened by the news, we are poorer without him. 2000 Blue Silver 'busa = '2003 Black VTX1300, Ulysses Member, lover of hot food

I think he was a great bloke even if he had a few silly moments, being a bit of a greeny from the Blue Mts I can appreciate the amount of time he's put in to conservation and I believe he has also put in millions of dollars out of his own pocket but this was something he didn't like being made public apparently. Anyhow he did a great service to Australian tourism and Australia in general I just hope his legacy lives on

My condolences go out to his family and friends.

Steve.
