Coolant
#1
I have had this issue for a couple of weeks now and to be quite frank "it's got me f!%ked. My coolant ends up in the bottle and not in the radiator were it should be. Big Love runs at normal temp, the needle points at about 4mm below half and has done since the day I bought BL. I have dumped the coolant and flushed the radiator, checked for blockages and there are no kinked hoses. Could it be the T/Stat? Or is there something else I should be looking at before I start removing things to get to the T/Stat.....

Nip the hose clamps up nice and tight, my guess is that you may have an air bubble in the system that is expanding and blowing coolant back into the overflow bottle. Need to really lean the bike side to side when filling the system to help purge the bubbles.

if all else fails replace radiator cap. If its not letting fluid back in when it cools down the cheapest option is the cap after bleeding.Biker

How full are we talking about?

Right to the top and over flowing or up to a point and stays there?

First time I noticed was when I put BL in the shed I came back to close the gate and there was coolant on the ground. I emptyed the bottle and checked the radiator it self and I needed to top it up. Put coolant back in the bottle to the full mark and went for ride. Sure enough it filled again. not quite to the point of over flow. I drained the radiator, filled it again, did P/Island and sure enough it happened again. Went for ride on the weekend and the coolant bottle level is 2/3rds full. Pull the fairings off and check the radiator and the level is fine. The whole time the temp reads normal. It really does make me wonder wtf is going on.

Have you tried leaving the bottle empty ? and seeing if it fills up and lowers the rad level?

The fact that it seems to run within spec makes it hard to believe that theres something wrong with the cooling system, the radiator cap is an easy swap, even between bikes.

If the pump, radiator or thermostat were faulty the bike would overheat, strange fault??

At any stage does the radiator end up low of coolant?

Its not just settling down to a level by expelling excess coolant?

Otherwise, its starting to sound like a head gasket..... . Scary

Rad cap probably has a bit of crap trapped in the little return valve in the centre of the cap allowing the coolant to flow unpressurized between expansion bottle and radiator so when you switch off motor the coolant will get heat soak and usually lightly boil out of the bottle for a few minutes due to no pressure in system, on re-starting the bottle usually gets sucked straight back in untill the next switch off, thats my thoughts
