Service-how often?
#1
Hi there. As I am a newbie this question is probably obvious to the experienced members, but I would appreciate your advice. My Busa was fully serviced at 3.5K apparently just before I bought it. The mechanic were I bought it from told me every 5K it needs a service. I have just clocked up 7500klm.

Quick background. 2007 Busa, first services carried out prior to me owning the bike. I am the second owner, and this will be my first service. The bike is running well, but the gearbox always seems a little...how can I put this technically....clunky?! Lol. Having said this, I have heard that Busa gearboxes can tend to be a little rough, so I am assuming this could be the nature of the beast.

1. Is every 5000klm resonable?

2. And is there anything major that I should be getting looked at on my next service?

Cheers guys an gals.

Richardo - If you are a reasonably mechanically inclined person then most Gen 1 owners will do a filter and oil change every 5000klm and have a bit of a Nerd around whilst you have the fairings off and run a spanner over things like your forks and triple tree, brake calipers etc. Your rear wheel nut and axle should be ok as you regularly clean and adjust the chain right Coolsmiley

I used to buy my oil in bulk from Ray at Easyrider imports (look in vendors section) plus he also has an oil additive called Millitec which to the Gen 1 gearbox is like lube to a dry umm - you get my drift? Pi_tongue

Apart from a regular oil change and grease up at home, i used to get mine serviced every 10,000klm or so - 24000klm is important to get the shims done.

Richardo, the service interval of a busa is 6,000ks.
Not much needs to be done at each service but oil and filters are the main items.
A road based busa runs pretty well without much more than cleaning and lubricating.

Do yourself a favour and clean the air filter every 6 months or replace it once a year if it is the original OEM one.
Clean the chain monthly and lube it sparingly every chance you get.
Check the tension every time you change the rear tyre.

I suggest you get hold of an owner's manual if you haven't got one and have a good read.

BusGo- thanks for responding. Always nice to see helpful responses to legitimate, albeit simple questions. You advice, like Ruffy's has been really helpful, and it is most appreciated. I think you are right about the owners manual. Unfortunately the bike didn't come with one as I bought it second hand. Have been keeping an eye out for one on ebay, but no luck yet. Will keep searching. Cheers mate.

if your mechanically minded and not afraid of holding a spanner I suggest you get yourself a Haynes manual, lotsa small stuff you could do yourself to maintain the bike.

Richardo,

Do a search on this forum for the gen 2 workshop manual and you will find a current link. It also has the maintenance schedule. Someone requested one just last week and a current link was posted.

Cheers

It is a gen 1 model Steven but regardless, there should be a link to be found for the manual for it.
