Windscreen & Front Sprocket Cover
#1
I have a K8 and the windscreen has a (vibration/rattle) and am hoping someone knows how to eliminate it. I have looked and the blown-up image in the parts manual and can only see two bolts that I have checked.

How hard is it to take the front sprocket cover off as I am fairly liberal with chain lube and am sure it would have to be starting to build up.

Cheers Mick

Hi Mick,

Not sure about the cover but the windscreen has 2 bolts and 2 rubber grommets that are also wellnuts for you bolts.
The only thing I can suggest is to check that these grommets/wellnets are intact and not damaged or pushed in as that may be causing some vibration.

Front Sprocket cover is easy as man.

Take off the Speed senser 1xscrew,

And with out checking I think there are 4 maybe 5 bolts to take out... it's really very obvious when you look at it, and then the cover just comes off.
If there's lots of grease and stuff, you might need to wriggle it off.
And remember if in doubt look have a quick look at the Gen 2 service manual.

It's in the Tech section.
Or use the search function on the forum 'gen 2 manual.'

Hope it helps.

Not sure about Gen 2, but my Gen 1 had a similar issue (rattle), solved it by putting a small bead of silastic on the edge of the screen that goes into the top of the nose cone. It just sits in a slot, there are no fixings to hold it in place. Hope this helps.
