Repaint scale model Copper
#1
Advice sought from those that know their paint.

I have 3 sets of Maisto 1:12 scale models all copper silver that are no longer available. Thought of selling them but then had an idea. The copper on the models are not copper its more yellowy and far from whats considered genuine colour. Some parts are plastic and the fuel tank is metal.

I got a small bottle of genuine copper touch up paint that I have had many years already. So I thought how about I paint the yellowy bits in genuine copper paint. I tried a bit on the front fender but it got cloggy and wiped it off. The paint may need to be thinned a bit.

Should I sand them down?
Does it need an undercoat?
Should I thin the copper paint?
What of the decals?

watchareckon?

get yourself an airbrush... then make sure your old paint is thoroughly mixed (might have gone off over time though) and then thin it, starting at 4:1 paint:thinner....
I would "mask" the silver on the model then paint over the "copper" with the real colour. Not sure if original copper had a special base to get colour right though??
A light rubbing with 1000+ grit paper will help remove any waxes, etc off original paint work and spot improper curing of new paint too....

finish with a few coats of clear to remove ridge lines of new paint.... always use 2000 grit between coats

thats my model painting experiences about used up LOL

Don't panic mate! All you need to do is get drunk and then go to Bunnings and get an Oxy torch and an angle grinder and then..... Yes

I don't think that's the best solution, get drunk when you've BEEN to bunnings(

don't want to drink and drive or ride ) THEN then get to it as stated above.
