Front Disks
#1
Howdie Howdie,

New around here and only have a couple of old pics of my bike.

Anyway, heres the question. I had the front brakes machined and it didnt work, front end shakes like hell under braking. So, wondering which way to jump with new front disks. I've been looking at BrakeTech disks from easyrider, but I've also been thinking about EBC, as I run their gear on my car. So if you guys have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. Of course if you have any suggestions that might mean not buying new disks thats even better, not made of money since I'm only 21.

(new pics soon, cos theres been many changes since that photo) Edited by: greeny san at: 16/4/06 4:39 am

I have the Brake Tech rotors fitted and love them. Mind you I have also fitted Brembo calipers etc. So when I say I love them, I say I love the whole system. If you fit just the brake tech rotors I'd love to hear how good they are on their own.

Cheers

Ringing up a few places about prices on tuesday, but I'm leaning towards the EBC gear and pads. Mainly because I know that their stuff works, even under the worst punishment.

Managed to haul my car up well even when the pads were on fire, sorry about the crappy photo but what do u expect from a camera phone.

Not sure which disks to actually go for, the EBC Floating Rotors, or the Pro-Lite Race Rotors. I guess price will decide. Anyways I will get back to you guys on how it goes, and if it works

Floating rotors will make braking smoother, however they do knock the pads back in the discs over corrugations or after headshakes. This will give you a much longer lever next time you use them if you didn,t remember to pump them back up.Recommended that you have a good steering damper with floating rotors on the street.

Braketech Iron f/f rotors with ferodo CP911 pads will do the job, if you do any hard riding or track work these brakes are the ones to get. I used them at the Creek and never had brake fad,and they give you plenty of feel. The Rapid Bike mag uses them on there project K5 Gixer 1000 and they reckon they are awsome. Cheers,

Machining didn't work Greensand? WTF?

Are you sure the front bearings are okay? And the wheel balance?

Machining works for me...........

EBC pads are the goods as well.

Do the brake tech cast iron rotors oxodise at all? I was thinking of going the Stainless Ones if they do. I don't track the bike, nor go too hard in the hills anymore, saw a mate take a fairly final off into a tree up there so I've slowed down a fair bit. And fairly sure its the machining that did it, had it done twice. The brakes didn't shave before, but they didn't work either. After machining they worked, but shake like hell, took them back and the problem remains. Go a new tyre and a wheel ballance, and the front end doesnt move then I jack it up, so the smart money is on the brakes.

Full float conversion will fix vibration for good like mine & 's

Yeh the iron rust a little when left out in the weather.but a run down the driveway cleans them up. But they make a fine s/s rotor also a pic is in the Vendors section. Cheers,

If the front end shakes under braking, I suggest you check your steering head bearings buddy.

Disks organised, and if it doesnt work I shall be checking all the barings, damper, forks etc. Not like I can ride the bike atm anyway. Can't wait to get out and on it again, though its a bit hairy in the rain.

What area are you from Greeny?
That photo certainly looks coastal. A bike just like yours was advertised in Newcastle recently. If it is that bike I know some of its history.

Not mine, I'm in Adelaide. Got the bike from Peter Stevens about a year or so ago, not sure when exactly. Done some work to it already, 4 - 1 extractors n yoshi, KnN Filter, heads been ported n polished, now the new brakes, rear aswell. ALso cleaned alot of stuff up on it to tidy it up a bit. Will take new photos when the brakes arrive
