hi just a quick question, what would happen if you ran a busa on methanol! my cousins got heaps of it for his race car and just wondered if it would work in a busa motor?? would there be a performance difference or will it blow the motor to smitherines, which is what my cousin thinks will happen!

Methanol will work fine in busa motor & with a good tune up it would make more power tho u do use approx twice the amount of fuel & u have a little more maintence ,correct me if im wrong but i belive leonard uses methanol in quicksilver .
cheers
mark
With methanol you need to be able to flow more fuel into the motor as it uses more (ie bigger injectors, more flow on the pump etc) methanol runs alot colder than petrol so less requirement for cooling system, need to tune it all to run methanol etc but the biggest problem which really sucks is methanol is illegal to run on the street. Smells great when it comes out the exhaust tho.
Just about any motor can run methanol if it's built & tuned for it, it's not like nitro-methane after all.

he isn't in Sydney by any chance ? and do you know what he pays for the methanol as i use it to make biodiesel :) and think my current supplier is a little expensive

Im sure i will be corrected if i am wrong .. but E85 is Ethanol - sugar cane based alcohol not methanol, wood based alcohol ( used to be made from wood now made from a chemical process )

sorry mat emy cousin leaves on the Gold Coast and he gets his methanol from the race track at brisbane comes in 44 gallon drums for i think 150 dollars a barrel
Your spot on Ozboc, E85 is Ethanol blend with ULP. I'd take methanol over e85. $150 a drum is cheaper than buying ULP at the pump, that's 205 litres.

$150 is very cheap - i think i paid 220 last time for a 44 , when i asked why so much i was told to keep in line with fuel prices ( what a load of crap i thought)
still for me to make biodiesel for my 4x4's costs me about .10c pl as apposed to buying it at 1.40 cpl ( what i used methanol for )

my cousin gets a discount because he is president of the brisbane speedway club so not sure what normal price is??

Can any body explain the changes needed to run on methanol ? jet sizes, maps ect.
Thanks

Methanol needs ~2.4 times the amount of fuel so put in injectors that much bigger and increase your fuel lines to cope with the extra flow needed, fuel pump needs to flow that much more too, replace any methanol non compatable parts , be prepared to have some system of introducing an alternate fuel to fire it up first thing when cold , and replace your oil often as of all that extra fuel not all goes out the exhaust, some ends up in the oil and will dilute the oil.
and your fuel tank will only last you a bit over 100 kms
Then the mapping begins, but you will be in the ball park if you have chosen the right injectors.
But there are benifits esp on a turbo bike, very cool fuel, that is untill you lean it out too far then its more closer related to a plasma cutter

[Maj, Thanks for the reply. What I forgot to mention was that, this is for drag purposes only.

E85 would be a better option, source some blackbird injectors and retune your pc3, you use aprox 40% more than petrol.
you could increase your fuel pressure to keep your std injectors.
we have seen 10 to 12 hp gain with ignition control on a bussa.
Burns cooler, can run to 16 to1 comp or great with turbo motors.
not corrosive like methanol. No cold start issues either.
i have a blackbird running e85 making 150 at the wheel and able to
switch back to petrol via a pc3 hub and dual map switch.
My turbo fzr would make 220 hp on petrol before ignition retard stop
hp gains, with the e85 fzr1000 ran to 270hp at this point turbo ran out of compressor flow.
