I am currently with WQBE... the Bandit was $209 per year and the Busa is $717. The difference is because the Busa is valued at $12,300 and is a different class to the Bandit which was worth only $4,000 approx.

I went online to IMR and, after being very happy with the quote, decided to see what the policy covers for $457 per year and an excess of $400. The excess details are a big worry. According to IMR they will charge two excesses for any claim where I cannot name the other driver or thief and the second excess will be the highest of the listed ones. This equates to $1900 for my quote so the premium saving is not worth any claim I might have to make. I cannot understand why they do the excess thing....I take out insurance and accept an excess but then read that they will charge me more than the quoted excess under certain circumstances...what a crock!!

That is not true mate....one of my previous bikes was stolen and I didn't pay two excesses (it may be written in the fine print, but whether they actually enforce it is another thing altogether). I've been insured with IMR for about 5 or 6 years now, have made two claims (one stolen, one written off) and have no complaints with their service at all. My 2 bobs worth anyway.

For the sake of curiosity, how old are you guys? I am 29 and only got my license 3 years ago and the cheapest comprehensive insurance I could find was with AAMI at around $1,250 per year. InsureMyRide, Swan, QBE, NRMA and others all wanted $2,000+. Also, how exactly to you find out what your no claim bonus is? I have previously had insurance with NRMA on previous GS500F and two cars, switching to AAMI after a few niggles.

Will Shannons offer me prices around the $800 mark?
Sorry to post again, but I just tried to do an online quote with Shannons and they don't even have the Hayabusa on the Suzuki list. Nor do they have the Gixxxer thou, R1, Fireblade or ZX ten. Will these only be processed over the phone or has Shannons decided not to insure what might be a high risk motorcycle?

Tristo, I also tried to get an online quote from Shannons and you're right, it's not on the list. You'll have to ring them. I'm 37 and they quoted me around $1000 from memory...I'm currently paying $650 for my K7 and that includes riding gear coverage.
Try Shannons mate, but I don't think they'll do you any favours regarding policy price. The only way to get a good deal is to shop around....I've been with IMR for a few years now, but I still shop around every year just to be sure.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

I just insured mine for the first time with Ebike insurance. Online quote was $960 cos I got demerits etc and I thought that was okay considering another I looked at was 1300. I elected to pay one instalment of $360 and the rest was 70 odd bucks a month. Anyway the point is they rang me to say they no longer did instalment plans and I had to pay up front. She would re do my policy and ring me back. When she rang back the policy had dropped to $645. So this makes me think if I had seen that there was no instalment plan I would of paid the $960 and thought no more about it as I have no no claims etc. How many others have done that and paid $300 too much ??

Thanks CeeJay... I will probably end up using IMR if that is the case but for interests sake I have sent the online quote to WQBE to see if they will match it.

As for how old I am... well I was born in just over the halfway point of the twentieth century...work that out!

Ok update... WQBE have come back with a quote of $455 and I am going to accept that. It does not include any riding gear cover but as that is only worth about 2 to 3 hundred I am not too worried....too bad its pissing down here!

I'm insured with Shannons, and only just renewed my policy. I initially insured my bike with QBE because they matched (and slightly bettered Shannons quote), but when the renewal came in it had gone up hugely. I thought this was a bit rude considering I had not incurred any fines or had any accidents, plus my bike had dropped in value. When I asked them they told me I would need a competitors quote to be able to reduce their premium. I got a quote from Shannons again, and being cheaper than my original QBE premium, I thought F*ck QBE and their price matching bullshit every year.
I switched to Shannons (although I already had 4 cars, plus my house/contents with them), and Shannons even agreed to giving me a protected no claim bonus.

The Shannons renewal just came in recently and it hasn't gone up a cent. I'm a year older and still haven't had any accidents or fines in the last year, but at least my premium didn't get dearer. I don't want to shop around every year for insurance, but I know it probably pays to. I wish the insurance companies would reward customer loyalty and good riding (no fines/accidents).
