650 Lightning...
to this day I still feel the thumping torque and sound of that bike...

When I grew up this was THE only bike that mattered...

Then a while later this became my dream bike...

and then it was this...

I had the cb and the Katana but never the Kwaka

Haa Pete, u bring back some fond memories, In the early seventies as a young hoon, u either rode a 4 or a 9, nothing else mattered. Of cause riding a Honda 4 was street cred, even some ' Angels used to ride them as well as many other outlaw clubs. I was fortuneate enough to have owned some 14 odd Honda 4's in various models and cover over a million k's on them. My favourites were the K2, the best handling was the F2 and it was on the F2 that got me into the record books on my 'Round Australia Record in 1978.
The K9 and it's later brothers, the Z1000, Z1R, Z1R11 & Mk11 1000's were also bikes close to my heart, having towed several sidecars all over this country travelling to rallies etc,Going road racing in production class & later, Superbike class. The K9 was the first of the big bore jappa's that could sit on a genuine 100mph for hours at a time and do it easy, whether u were solo or two up!.
Then came the mighty GSX1100's followed by the awsome Kat', a bike that was way ahead of it's time in styling but not a particularly good handler in stock form. I still own one today. Fast forward to '99 & the Benchmark 'Busa, of all the bikes I have owned in my life & believe me that is many, the 'Busa has proved to be the best allrounder suited to the riding I do. I still own my '99 however I reckon my new K8LE is a 70% improvement and if it proves over time to be as reliable as the '99, I'll be a happy man.
Long live the 'Busa.

Cheers,
Tex & Bundy
