Not just Long trips.
I would recommend carrying a reapir kit at all times, not just long trips. two of my punctures occured in the metro area (especially near construction sites if forced to go to the edge of lanes where debris accumulates).
The first time I had to wait over two hours for a tow to arrive in Nth Sydney. the second time I repaired the puncture with my kit that i now always carry and was riding in 15 mins.
