You may have received a software disc with the new monitor.
If you did, run and install it to your PC.
The software should allow you to set display at various resolutions etc.
Alternatively, If when you started the PC with the new monitor, Windows may have detected it (DETECTED NEW HARDWARE) and asked you to install the drivers for it.
If you have loaded drivers or installed the software, you should find an option on your Programs menu for something like Optiquest. If it is there your settings should be an option.
