What do you think? (oil Change interval)

I just bought an 09 busa Its not run in yet only 600 k's on clock when and bought oil and filter for when change is due. Dealer recommends I change at half the manufacturers suggestion of 1000k's is this ok or just a money grab? I'm going to do the work myself as I don't trust dealerships after seeing how cars are worked on lol. (I'm mechanically proficient I might add.)
PS is it much of a pain in the arse to get fairing off, and which side is the oil filter and sump plug on? lol
